Miracles 2

from the Desk of MarDrag:

I ran across a picture yesterday that was the foot of a baby with the inscription, “If you don’t believe in miracles, perhaps you’ve forgotten you are one”. That quote stayed with me throughout the day and got me thinking about miracles, and how or if they play a part in our lives. It occurred to me that it is not a concept most of us think about on a daily basis, but we might sometimes refer to them when something unexpected and wonderful happens to us.

The standard definition of a miracle is “an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs; an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment; a wonder or marvel; a surprising and welcome event that is inexplicable by natural and scientific laws and is considered to be divine”

I think most of us can say we have had one of those definitions happen in our lives at some point, and we declare, “it’s a miracle”. Or, when we are faced with a difficult or painful situation, we may pray for a miracle to happen to fix it or help us through it.

Miracle 4

But I started to wonder, if that was not enough, if we were missing something.

Because, you see, I believe miracles happen in some form every day. The miracle of life happens every day. Waking up in the morning is a miracle. Nature, the sun rising and setting, someone smiling, a friend listening to our woes, the arrival of an unexpected happy event, something that makes us laugh, or think deeper…there are so many things I could name that are tiny, small or big miracles that happen each day…that we take for granted and forget to see them as they are…miracles.

It is in the perspective with which we choose to see life. There are many things that happen to cause us to be down, sad, depressed, angry or frustrated. But, if we countered each one of those things with another that we saw as a miracle, we could counter some of those negative feelings and wash them away with the beauty that life truly does offer us every day.

Miracle 1

And the first, most magnificent miracle we can look at, should look at, each and every day…is ourselves. We are unique, remarkable individuals…no two alike…that can claim this gift of life. Imagine that…no two alike. You are your own perfect miracle!

So, every day we wake to the miracle of having yet another day to make a choice about how we will live our lives. See that as the miracle that it is…see yourself as the miracle that you are, and look for all the miracles about you that happen in a day. Make a conscious choice to see and acknowledge that, amid the chaos of life, at least one thing happens every day that is out of the ordinary and has a higher purpose. Put your focus there and give it power and attention, for with that, it will grow and multiply.

Once we open ourselves to miracles, we will see how they come to pass more often than we think, and just when we most need them.

Blessings!
