from the Desk of MarDrag:
We are Human…in beauty, grace, love, and light…but we are flawed too. We are taught to aspire to be the best human being we can be…but sometimes we fail at that. Because, gasp, we are human. What a conundrum!
We are all our own unique tapestry, events in our lives weaving the pattern that makes us who we are. Sometimes the thread gets caught in the needle, sometimes it snaps, breaks away from the weave and has to be repaired and blended back into the overall picture of the tapestry again. Where it is mended, sometimes we can see the flaw…but each and every thread, each snap, each patch or repair, each flaw…is exactly what makes that tapestry unique, special, unlike any other tapestry. Without them, we would be factory manufactured wall hangings.
As humans, sometimes we make mistakes or missteps. They can be hurtful…to ourselves and to others. And we can regret them miserably and feel like we can never forgive ourselves for them. We feel that we should have known better. But, knowing better comes from making mistakes and learning from them. If we had “known better” then we would not have made the mistake. But, how can we know better without making the mistake first? Another conundrum.
When we can’t forgive ourselves for past mistakes or missteps, we can turn our insides into knots of despair over things that have long passed. Most of the time, we are the only ones thinking about it. Everyone else has moved on. But because we aspire to be a better person, we look back and cringe and think, no, I am no better than that mistake. And that is not true. If we look at our mistakes and learn from them, those errors in judgment are no longer a part of us. The cycle gets completion. Mistake – lesson learned – forgive yourself – let it go. Personal growth occurs, and we evolve into that better person we wanted to be. And that mistake, then, is no longer a part of us now…but a part of the person we used to be. Let it go.
Hanging on to past mistakes by not forgiving ourselves clogs the energy paths through which new and good things come to us. It can only still affect us if we keep dragging the past into the present. Clear the path – let the past go back to where it belongs – in the past. Even if it was just yesterday.
A question to ask ourselves is…”If this is still part of my life, and if it still affects me, why is it still important to hold on to, do I still need to learn a lesson?” If the answer is yes, then set about working on it. Just taking action within yourself will make you feel better. But if the answer is no, and you are just obsessing over something you can no longer change, then Let. It. Go. It harms no one but yourself…and you can’t move forward with a sack of regret and self-loathing hanging on your back.
That is not what God, or the Higher Powers, or the Divine want for us. We humans made this up. And it is not in the Divine Plan. The Divine Plan is for us to be happy, healthy and empowered. Why do we argue with that plan so much?
So, we must forgive ourselves. And know that in the bigger picture, in the full scope of our tapestries, there are many gorgeous, wonderful threads that make up who we are, not just those mistakes and flaws. In the grand picture, those are just imperfections that make the tapestry unique. And when you step back and look at the full picture, they are a small part of its entire scope.
At any given moment, you have the power to say, this is not how the story ends.
A quick exercise ~ In the next 15 minutes, if you can do something about that thing that is bothering you, go do it. If there is nothing you can do, for the next 15 minutes…let it go, and do not worry about it. Just for 15 minutes, let yourself have peace. Take a deep breath and put it outside your boundary. And feel the relief and peace. Practice this as mush as possible and then extend 15 minutes to 30 minutes…then an hour, couple of hours, then a whole day. Sometimes we have to retrain our minds to step off a pattern we have been doing for a long time. With practice, it becomes the new pattern, and becomes a part of the person we want to be, which in honesty, is who we already are.
We are off, headed into another week, starting with a Happy Monday! Hopefully, this week will look better in many ways and we will all find a bit of Success, Happiness, Peace and Love within it. To get us started in the right direction, I bring you a post full of Inspiration. May it help you start a beautiful day….a beautiful Monday! Blessings!
Today, try to remember that…..
Be in command of your thoughts and know…
And strive for…
And because every Monday should start with a little humor….
Now, my message to you for today is….
May Love & Light find its way to you today and all week!
Well…my blog friends…this has been quite a week! I have heard from so many people that had so much going on…and it was a difficult week to navigate. Change, in its purest form, is upon us. Movement is happening in people’s lives, whether they want it or not. Some of it is joyous, some of it tedious and unnerving. So…I wanted to seek a good message to help you handle and understand it all. I was drawn to my Runes for this one…and picked up my bag and “The Book of Runes” by Ralph Blum to see what they had to say. The one that came into my hand was:
Teiwaz: “Warrior Energy”
Message (paraphrased): “This is the Rune of the Spiritual Warrior. Always the battle of the Spiritual Warrior is with the Self. Funding a will through action, yet unattached to outcomes, remaining mindful that all you can really do is stay out of your own way and let the Will of Heaven flow through you – these are the hallmarks of the Spiritual Warrior.
Embodied in this Rune is the energy of discrimination, the swordlike quality that enables us to cut away the old, the dead, the extraneous. Patience is the virtue of this Rune, and the molding of character.
Here you are asked to look within, to delve down to the foundations of your life itself. Only in so doing can you hope to deal with the deepest needs of your nature and to tap into your most profound resources. Associated with the Rune are the sun, masculine energy, the active principle. The urge toward conquest is prominent here, especially self-conquest, which is a life-long pursuit and calls for awareness, single-mindedness and the willingness to undergo your passage without anxiety and in total trust.
This Warrior Rune counsels perseverance, although at times, the kind of perseverance called for is patience. What are your priorities? How are you using your energy? Teiwaz is a Rune of courage and dedication and strengthens your resolve in the struggle of the Self with the Self.”
from the Desk of MarDrag:
It is interesting to me (of course!) that this Rune came up because I spoke frequently to people and clients this week about seeing themselves as a Spiritual Warrior. Life movement is upon us and the energy is accelerating. As the Rune says…we are being called to look within and delve down to the deepest depth of our nature, our souls, seeking the truth of who we really are…our True Self. It is when our Surface Self is in battle with our True Self that we become confused and are unable to make things happen, or they do not happen as we wish. OR, think we wish!
Only in going deep within to get to know our True Nature can we know what we truly need…and also…tap into the unlimited and profound resources within to create and/or draw to us the fulfillment of those needs and desires. We must be absolutely honest with ourselves about our deepest nature.
A Spiritual Warrior has the magic swordlike quality to cut through the cr*p…to cut away the old, stale layers to get to that True Nature. It is time to wield that sword and strike through the muck…cleanse it away…and allow the True You to emerge. Only then will you know your True Path. And when you do this with single-mindedness and awareness…then anxiety and stress will dissolve and you will find the gift of perseverance comes to you to aid you in walking your path in Total Trust.
And then persevere…which sometimes means…be patient. When I traveled through the “dark night of the soul” journey in my life, there were moments when I raised my voice to the universe and wailed, “I can not take it one more moment! I can wait no more!” And then the moment passed…and I dug even deeper…and I found more patience, and went on. And…I came out of the tunnel into the Light and I am a better person for it. A stronger Warrior.
You have that in you too! I promise! So garb yourself in your Spiritual Warrior gear. Take up your sword and fight for your life…your True Life…and then step out of your own way and let your Source flow through you…guiding you always in the right direction.
The week comes to a close as we look forward to a break come the weekend. There were good moments this week, some not so good, and some surprising and wonderful. Embrace it all! And, to help you through this last day of the week…a bit of Inspiration to feed your Soul. Wishing you a lovely, peaceful, and restful weekend! Blessings!
MAKE THE DAY COUNT…SHINE YOUR GORGEOUS LIGHT!
“A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving.” ~ Albert Einstein
None of us got here without the labors of others…here and gone. If every person has a purpose in life, then each one is contributing to the aspects of life that we take for granted. Many inventions, tools, and ideas have been created that make our lives easier. Some, definitely harder. But…the point is we should look at how we can contribute to the world as part of the collective that has shaped our lives. Now more than ever…we need to focus that contribution in a positive manner. We have messed with things since Albert Einstein made this quote. We should strive to emulate his life message. And too, remember to be grateful and give thanks for all these contributions.
“I discovered I always have choices and sometimes it’s only a choice of attitudes.” ~ Judith M. Knowlton
MarDrag’s Thoughts: As we work at creating our lives and crafting them to be what we desire them to be…we make choices. Some of those choices work, some of them do not. We pray for help or for things to happen. Sometimes it happens the way we want it to, and sometimes it does not. But the greatest choice we can make is to realize that everything happens as it does for a reason. Rather than have an attitude of defeat or frustration, if we can transform that attitude to one of acceptance and gratitude, we fare so much better. We always have a choice…and attitude can make all the difference in the quality of our lives. It is not what happens to us, but how we handle it that makes us who we are.
“Instead of a jewel, or even a flower, we would cast the gift of a lovely thought into the heart of another, that would be giving as the Angels give.” ~ Anonymous
Perhaps this is the message from the Divine, Angels, Higher Powers…that when we pray for material things, they can not answer with material things. The Beings from above can only answer in thought, as they are from another dimension. We, as physical beings, are the ones who can get for ourselves wealth and material things…those things are in our realm. But…the most valuable wealth is in the spirit realm… a thought, a realization, a knowing of balance and harmony between spirit and material. So when we “pray” for money or things, perhaps we can remember those are easy to get compared to wisdom and love…which comes from a higher place. And so too, when we give, a gift of the heart, Love, is the most precious of gifts and makes us like Angels on Earth.
I wrote this blog last year, and it came up in a conversation last night, so I was prompted to post it again. May you enjoy it a second time. Blessings!

”Nothing can withstand the power of the human will if it is willing to stake its very existence to the extent of its purpose.” ~ Benjamin Disraeli
from the Desk of MarDrag:
In the old, tattered and dog-eared pages of the worn hard cover copy of my Oxford American Dictionary that still sits on my desk (collecting dust), the definition of Will is as follows:
WILL: The mental faculty by which one deliberately chooses or decides upon a course of action: Diligent purposefulness; determination: Deliberate intention or wish: Self-control; self-discipline: A desire, purpose, or determination
Merriam Webster describes Willpower as: energetic determination
I like all of these descriptions and definitions, my favorite being; “the mental faculty by which one deliberately chooses or decides upon a course of action.” There is also a common word in all of the definitions: determination.
If we put “deliberately chooses or decides” together with “determination”, we have the perfect characterization of the Will. And we all have one. We use it every day in fact (to different degrees), even when we don’t realize it or are not conscious of it. We use it for small things like completing tasks, or getting the hubby/wife to do something we want them to do, or big things like creating businesses or the next great invention. And we use it for all those things in between.
The thing is….we use our Will frequently, and yet, we may not give it the conscious attention, focus or acknowledgement that we should. It is what we do with our Will, or for many, don’t do, that carries us along our paths in life.
If we would like to craft our lives in the fashion that we want to live, be who we desire and aspire to be, have the things we desire to have, and stop living at the affect of those things that would seem to control us….then we need to change our focus from “why?, I can’t, I don’t want to” or “I don’t know” to “I Will”. And I do not mean the “I will do such and that”. I mean the I WILL which deliberately chooses and makes the decisions of our lives and executes those decisions with determination until the result is to our satisfaction. It is a subtle yet powerful distinction. And one that can change our lives and propel us to realize our potential and that we have the power to overcome our resistance to use our Will in all its positive power.
I am not speaking of Willpower so much as the Power of the Will.
Acknowledge your Will and the influence it has on your life. Then gain command of it by making deliberate choices about yourself and your life, always striving to direct your Will in a positive direction. When we practice letting go of, “Why aren’t things going my way?” to “I will direct my energy in the way I want things to go, and with a strong Will behind it”, then we empower our lives to move in the direction that we wish it to go. If we are honest with ourselves about that direction, and we make sure it is a positive direction toward perfect love and perfect trust, then we need not fear or worry about where it will lead us. Directing the Will from our inner Wiser Self always guides us to the right course on the right road. The one we are truly meant to take.
Do not be afraid to acknowledge your Will. Do not be afraid to use it, but be clear, honest and good in your choices in how you use it. Choose to be empowered in the name of goodness and love, Will that you live your life in abundance and peace and that the rest of the world rise to the goodness of Will as well. A thousand Wills, and hundreds more, one by one…and we can change not only our own life, but the life of the world.
One of my favorite bloggers, http://risinghawkspeaks.wordpress.com/, wrote a poem the other day called “Unworthy”, about giving and hope, that brought back the memory of an incident that happened to me years ago. I have not been able to get it off my mind, and felt compelled to write about it here. (Go to his blog to read this remarkable poem, among others!)
The incident that related to this poem happened many years ago…but started me on a path of learning about Unconditional Love…and I have never forgotten the incident or its message. This is what happened:
Many years ago, I was taking my teenage daughter to work very early one day. Dawn was still drawing its lazy covers off the morning, just as I had pulled myself, reluctantly, from my warm bed for obligation. I was, admittedly, grumpy that morning. While I never begrudged my amazing and hard working daughter a lift to work, I sometimes “had my moment”, as we all do. We needed to stop for gas and, while she was pumping, I was sitting in the car still wrapped in gossamer threads of dreamtime, awake enough to drive, but still longing for my warm covers.
As I sat, lamenting the chilly morning, a scraggly man with rumpled clothes and a cardboard sign came up to my window and knocked on it. He was bleary eyed, and had not shaven in some time. He was clearly in need. But in my little nucleus of ill-temper that morning, I did not look past my own discomfort to his…and I sent him away…grumbling to myself that he would likely have just bought alcohol or drugs with the money I gave him, if I had given any.
As he trudged down the road, I stewed in my crossness, feeling even worse, because I am a giver. Then…and I firmly and openly attest to this…a light came from somewhere, infusing the dusk of the gloomy dawn…and it came on me. In a second, I snapped awake and a thought came flooding to my mind. “What if, at this moment, I was called to test. What if that man was a Divine being, or God, or however you name it for yourself…and I was being challenged to show the love for human kind that I speak of within me?” It was a changing moment for me.
I opened the car door, ran, and caught up with the man. I gave him a handsome gift…but it was not the size of the gift that I gave it for. I gave it…because of the size of the lesson that the moment held for me.
I walked away thinking…this was a human being in need. It did not matter WHAT he spent the money on…just that he was in need. IF he did spend the money on booze…was that the only thing he had left in his life that represented relief, or joy to him? And who was I to judge how and where he came from and how he had landed in that position. And too, what if that was just my own judgment talking…and he really spent the money on food, or shelter? Was I only going to give to those I deemed worthy of the gift?
What I came away with that day, is that Giving is an act that should be done for the sake of the act…not with any attachment to what the other will do with what is given. True “Giving” is done unconditionally, with no judgment on the receiver…or any thought on the gift at all after it has left our hands and heart. Give for the sake of Giving, and the pleasure it gives us to know we are doing something for another should be the gift that comes back to us.
Unconditional Love and Giving has no attachment to any outcome or to where the gift will go or how it will be used. We gave…with an open heart and with Love. THAT is what counts!
NOW…THIS DOES NOT MEAN…that we Give to the point of being taken advantage of. There are those that will seek to destroy our generosity by doing this. But, it is in those instances that we Give ourselves the gift of Discernment, and, if we are being mis-used, we think enough of ourselves to stop the pattern. Any way you look at it though…we are Giving. Whether to ourselves or others. And that is the point.
Remember…it does not take away from a candle to use it to light anothers. Once the flame is shared, it stays alight, and glows amid all the other wicks it shared its spark with. How awesome do you think that candle feels…for having shared its Light, its Flame, with others…watching the glimmering radiance of another coming to Light.
Strive to share your Light. The smile on the receiver is the greatest gift of all!
I have a special moment to share. Two lovely new blog friends stopped by this past week to offer a gift, and I would make their mention here.
