Getting To Where?

“Not all those who wander are lost.”  ~ J.R.R. Tolkien

“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.”  ~ Ernest Hemingway

“The only journey is the one within.”  ~ Ranier Maria Rilke

“A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it.”  ~ John Steinbeck

“At every given moment we are absolutely perfect for what is required for our journey.”  ~ Steve Maraboli

“Your journey has molded you for your greater good, and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don’t think you’ve lost time. There is no short-cutting to life. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time.”  ~ Asha Tyson

“The journey is the treasure.”  ~ Lloyd Alexander

Mon. 3

from The Desk of MarDrag:

I have written on this blog before about the Journey of Life, our Journey, and what that means to us. But I was talking with a client this past week…a young woman who has just recently begun her Journey and is still confused about where she will go and what she wants to do. To young people, we might say that, well, you are young and your Journey has just begun, so embrace it and walk it well. But it occurred to me that all of us, no matter what age, begin our Journeys anew each time a change or event causes movement in our lives. So, we might say, we are always on a Journey of some kind…and yet we look to and focus on the Destination as the most important part of it.

And I began to ponder the questions, “Just Where Are We Going?” and “Where is It We Are Working So Hard To Get To?”.

Mon. 2

The thing is…as we have heard and I have written about before…the Power is in the Journey, not the Destination. Empowerment does not come at the end of the Journey…we do not of a sudden “arrive” at Empowerment…it IS the Journey – the taking of it – the bits and pieces of ourselves that we leave scattered along the way so that we can pick up the bits of wisdom that emerge for the leaving of them – and it is the wisdom we keep and are Empowered by. A Destination is just where we take a breath, rejuvenate, and begin again.

Now…is a Destination. We are here Now…we have arrived at Now…and should squeeze every bit of life out of Now…before we move on again.

So, if there are things that are not working, or we feel stuck, or if things are not manifesting as we wish, or there are struggles and stress…we must take a look at our Journey and how we are walking it…in the Now. If we consistently keep looking only at a Destination ahead, then we miss the Journey and the Destination we have already reached…in the Now. And too…we may miss a fork in the road, or a change in direction that would guide us to something we had not dreamed of yet. While it is, of course, good and right to have goals and dreams…if those do not manifest, (and some don’t for whatever reason), would we deny ourselves satisfaction and happiness then, because we did not reach where we thought we should? There is no guarantee with goals and dreams…so the Journey itself takes on a new importance.

Mon. 4

We need to acknowledge each step we have taken on our Journey, for it has brought us here to this Destination of Now…and we have grown with each step, and moved forward. We ought to give ourselves credit for that, for it has taken much energy and perseverance, and we are to be championed for that. Every step, every hardship, every lesson, every joy…has contributed to this Now and, whether it seems acceptable or not…it is right where we are supposed to be. The sum of our past steps have walked us here. Now…what would we do with that knowledge that will help us walk the Journey of our True Path and Empower us?

Mon. 5

Be in the moment. Know that you are on the right step on the Journey. Open yourself to new directions if the one you are looking at is not working. Better still…do not look too far in any direction, look at the steps beneath your feet and concentrate on those. Trust that they will walk you exactly where you are meant to go. And, enjoy the adventure of the Journey!

Sunday Inspiration

I have been talking to people, and hearing from them, about Trust this week…a lot.  Not so much Trust in what is outside them…but Trust in themselves. This is, perhaps, the hardest thing for we humans to do…to Trust ourselves. So, today’s Inspiration post is brought to you by…Trust.

Because it is so true that…

Trust 3

And by developing and learning from the negative aspects of life, we can remember that those things that happen to us do not define the whole of who we are…

Trust 5

When we realize we always have a choice about who we are, then…

Trust 6

So have Faith in yourself and…

Trust 10

And Trust that, no matter how things go…

Trust 11

You will always be ok as long as you listen to that inner voice…

Trust 4

And that path will lead you to…

Trust 2

And when you strive to do all of those for yourself, you can…

Trust 1

Believe this…Trust this…Know this…And Remind yourself that…

Trust 9

For it is WE who know, deep down, what is best for us…and it is only WE who can discover what our True Purpose is. WE must Trust in ourselves…listen to our deep inner voice, and give ourselves the gift of Unconditional Love. Drop any judgment on where we think we are on our path and Trust that we are where we are supposed to be…and that our Inner Wisdom will guide us each step of the way.

When we can Trust ourselves, then we can truly get out of our own way, and allow the river of life to flow, as we ride the current, to true happiness and fulfillment.

Finding Comfort

Comfort Winter Home

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”  ~ Edith Sitwell

Comfort Taco Beer

“Never underestimate how much assistance, how much satisfaction, how much comfort, how much soul and transcendence there might be in a well-made taco and a cold bottle of beer.” ~ Tom Robbins

Comfort Home Sweet Home

“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” ~ Maya Angelou

Comfort Sunshine

“As the years pass, I am coming more and more to understand that it is the common, everyday blessings of our common everyday lives for which we should be particularly grateful. They are the things that fill our lives with comfort and our hearts with gladness — just the pure air to breathe and the strength to breath it; just warmth and shelter and home folks; just plain food that gives us strength; the bright sunshine on a cold day; and a cool breeze when the day is warm.” ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder

Comfort Blanket

“Dream about things that envelop your being like a comfortable blanket.”  ~ T. Devour

from The Desk of MarDrag:

I had a long, busy, activity filled day the other day and when I finally completed everything and could take a break and a breather, I looked to find some relaxation and comfort. So I gathered an ice cold bottle of water, a snack, and a chocolate and climbed the stairs to my loft, where all my treasures, books, and my desk are located. Also in this lovely space is my favorite purple reading chair. It is an indulgence of plush material and sits deep. It has a matching ottoman perfect for resting tired feet. I keep a small table next to the chair, which is positioned in the middle of the loft, and I placed my food and beverage there. I lit a stick of incense, lit several candles, and turned to my chair. I sat down, deliberately scooting into its depths to find the exact right position, pushing and plumping the cushions with my body to fit it most comfortably. I propped my feet upon the ottoman, and took several long, deep, core breaths. This…I thought…is absolute Comfort.

This…I also thought…is what we need to strive to find a few moments for ourselves every day. I know, it is difficult to find the time. And some would say they cannot find Comfort in their life right now, that there is too much turbulence.

But…there are those simple, quiet things, as simple as a favorite chair, that can make those moments of Comfort for us. And it is those moments when we allow ourselves some Comfort that keep us going, nurtured, and replenished.

So, whatever Comfort means to you…allow yourself to find it among the stressful minutes of your day. Comfort can come in many ways or from many things or people…it matters not where it comes from…but that it comes to be a natural part of our lives, our days. Especially now, gather Comfort to you and give yourself that gift. It makes such a difference…and you deserve it!

And…may you find a bit of Comfort from your visit here. Know that Love and Warmth are wrapped around you with every click to the blog!

1 Year Anniversary

1 Year Anniversary

Good Morning! It is an auspicious day everyone! I woke this morning realizing that it was the 1st anniversary of the inception of this blog. I knew it was coming, but I had forgotten the exact day. A friend asked me about it and it dawned on me…today is the day. And so, this post is in celebration of a most important event in my life.

This blog began because of a sad event…the loss, in death, of a friend. In order to help people cope with it and begin the healing process, I started writing short pieces on Healing, Grief, and Friendship. Soon, it became apparent that people liked these pieces as well as finding comfort and information in them. I was inspired…and so…developed the blog. The rest is, as they say, history. I have been writing here ever since. (Though I have actually been “writing” for many years).

At first, it was just people I knew who came here, and an occasional acquaintance. I was so shy in the beginning that I did not even tag the posts! Silly, I know…but I am not the type to shout out what I have to say. A quiet conversation or a whisper of wisdom is more me. I also work one on one with people, so I get to focus all my energy and help, one being at a time. (Though I am writing a book(s) I hope to have published.). So a public forum was something I had to grow into and become accustomed to. I was sure no one would come to read anyway, unless they knew me.

1 Year Blog

A few months into writing the blog, I finally began to tag the posts and monitor activity. To my delight…people came to read and comment. I was thrilled! If this blog can help even one person, or a handful, I am pleased. But, it has steadily grown over these past months and I have even been presented with a few awards. My dream has come true!

So…on this day of recollection and observance…I Celebrate You! All you wonderful readers who visit every day and leave me most precious comments, letting me know that this little blog…amid a sea of many…gives you sustenance, words to live by, and once a week, humor! That…and You…mean so very much to me.

It is my Passion, my Purpose, my Need…to help where I can. It is what my life was made for. I love sitting down and writing my posts for you, thinking and pondering on what message would most help you in a day. You ALL have a place in my heart and I love seeing you visit. If I could, I would fold you all into my arms and wrap you in comfort and love…just to get you through the day.

1 Year Hug

Perhaps that is, in fact, what this blog is…a Huge Hug to all of you out there trying to get through these awkward and troubling days. It is not an easy time…so I do hope my words here do some good for you. That is my deepest desire. Know that you have someone on your side, always. And I hope you keep coming back for another year. Keep stopping by…I’ll leave the light on for ya.

(And if any of you ever need help in your lives, guidance or counseling, please do not hesitate to contact me (info on the contact page above).  I am here for you. It is what I do.)

1 Year Heart

Blessings and Love To you All!

Breath of Life

When I woke this morning, I had the urge to seek a message from the animal kingdom. They were abundant in my dreams last night, so I took to my “Animal Medicine Cards” and book, “The Discovery of Power Through The Ways of Animals” by Jamie Sams and David Carson and the card I pulled was the Dolphin. Here is what it had to say:

Dolphin 1

Dolphin: “Breathe, Take In Life Force, Accept The Gift of Usable Energy, Touch The Invisible”

Message (paraphrased): “Dolphin speaks to us of the breath of life, the only thing that humans can not go without for more than a few minutes. We can live without water and food for days, but oxygen is the source of our sustenance. Within the breath we encounter the rhythm of energy that all life emits. In changing the rate or rhythmic texture of our breath, we find an easy way to connect with Divine energy as well as with our own personal rhythms.

Dolphin is the keeper of the sacred breath of life, and teaches us how to release emotions through breath. Dolphin creates rhythm, swimming through the water and breathing before submerging, then holding its breath for the duration of underwater travel. As Dolphin comes above water again, it blows its breath out in a manner resembling the popping of a cork. We can use this same technique to pull the stopper on our tensions and create total relaxation.

Be mindful of your body rhythms and patterns of energy.  Breathe and know that you are whole.”

from The Desk of MarDrag:

As the book says, breath is the sustenance of our lives. By becoming aware of the rhythm of our breath, we can tap into our own personal rhythms and change or adjust them. We can also release tension and emotions that have built up because of stress or worry. We can notice that, when we sit for long periods, our breath becomes shallow. When we are in movement, our breath becomes deeper.

By consciously  paying attention to our breath, we can help our minds and bodies to release and relax. Haven’t we all been told when we are upset to “just breathe” in order to calm down or relax? And it works. But we do not have to wait until we are upset to use that technique.

As the message indicates…sometimes we feel we are “just trying to keep our heads above water”…and that if we submerge, we will be overwhelmed. But Dolphin shows us that we can survive those times of traveling underwater…and emerge again, able to release the tension and stress that difficult times create. And we can release it all, through our breath. It is the Life Force that sustains us, that connects us to our inner life force and feeds our cells the precious oxygen they need to flourish and thrive. When we breathe deep, we are nurturing our mind, body and spirit…in one breath.

Dolphin 3

So take a few moments each day to close your eyes, breathe deeply…take the breath all the way down past your chest and into your belly, your core. Hold it for a few seconds, then let it go, like the pop of a Dolphin breath, and release your tension. See it flowing out of you as you exhale. Do this several times and feel your body and mind relax as well as promoting the blood flow through your cells. There is also the element of connecting to a higher energy with prolonged deeper breathing.

So, no matter how, when, where or why you do it…take those few minutes daily to breathe life into your mind, body, and soul and tap into the rhythms of your unique being. Feel that deeper connection to Self as your breath flows through you. And be as the Dolphin…go with the flow.

Being OK

“There is some kind of a sweet innocence in being human- in not having to be just happy or just sad- in the nature of being able to be both broken and whole, at the same time.”  ~ C. JoyBell C.

“We are human beings. If we do not experience a wide range of emotions than (to me) that’s a sign we aren’t living fully.”  ~ Brandon A. Trean

“When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile.”  ~ Author Unknown

“The world is round and the place which may seem like the end may also be only the beginning.”  ~ Ivy Baker Priest

“Adversity is like a strong wind.  It tears away from us all but the things that cannot be torn, so that we see ourselves as we really are.”  ~ Arthur Golden,

“The soul would have no rainbow had the eyes no tears.”  ~ John Vance Cheney

Tapestry 1

from the Desk of MarDrag:

Life is not ok sometimes. And for some, life seems not ok most of the time. As this Great Tapestry of life gets woven, with all our individual tapestries being woven at the same time….the thrust of the ever present needle can be felt harshly. As that needle, bearing its string of thread, plucks through the hole of the canvas and pulls the strand through, we feel it, and it can yank at our comfort, peace and balance. Behind us, the threads are fit snuggly into their place in the picture, for better or worse, but before us is a blank canvas, and the anticipation of our thread being pulled through another point in the tapestry can also cause us anxiety, angst and fear.

When things are not working right in our life, or as we think they should, we feel the strain of every inch of our threads scraping through the fabric, creating tension and resistance. In our minds eye, we see our weaves, our tapestries completed in a certain way, with a certain picture we either want to see, or think we should see. That, though, is rarely how they turn out. And we feel that is not OK.

The trouble is, we cannot always see or know how things are really supposed to look or turn out. We are so busy watching the threads being pulled, or trying to direct where they should go, that we miss viewing the bigger picture. And also, we can’t always see that bigger picture, because we are meant to experience every turn, every pull in the thread that takes us there. Life is a journey, not a destination, and we never know completely and with final assuredness where we are meant to go next, or why, or how. Sometimes that ends up being a lovely surprise.

And that is why, as hard as it may seem, we have to try to Be OK with the what, when, where, how and why…because all of those lead us somewhere, and most of the time, the best places we are led to are the most unexpected ones.  And, just when we think we cannot go on another minute the way things are…another minute goes by, and we make it through. And we are…OK.

There have been many times in my life when I said, I can’t stand another minute of this, and then another minute passed and I still moved forward. I had to dig ever deeper for the strength to pass that minute, but I did…and we do, because that is what is needed of us. We must surrender those minutes, over and over, peeling back the layers of “Not OK”, until what is meant to happen reaches us, and then a new journey begins.

If you are going through a difficult moment, and wondering where your thread is being woven and when you will get to where you are going, keep telling yourself it is OK to be where you are at, and each time you surrender to that, you peel another layer back that reveals your true self, stripped of all the “I think I should be doing this” threads, and the true place you are meant to be will be revealed to you and you will “get the picture”. When we resist where we are at, the tension pulls at our thread, so it cannot be placed where it is meant to be woven. If we can relax that thread and be OK with its placement, we will discover there may be a piece of the picture we would not have seen otherwise.

When we can make it ok that some things are not ok, then we can find some balance and perspective. You have to say its OK, feel its Ok, in order to BE OK.

A Message to My Readers

Journey 7

I regret to say I am having computer problems that I have not been able to figure out and must now enlist the brilliance of a friend who does know about this….stuff. Grrr. I have not been able to post anything new here and will not be able to until the problem is identified.

Please bear with me…and know that I will be back soon with something wonderful.

Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts Clutter

“Clutter causes stress, and clutter is one of the main barriers of productivity.” ~ Charisse Ward

Thoughts Organize

“When I cannot bear outer pressures any more, I begin to put order in my belongings… As if unable to organize and control my life, I seek to exert this on the world of objects.”~ Anais Nin

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

The messages coming through this week have been about being in a holding pattern or stalemate, choices, and commitment to ourselves. These two quotes really caught my attention because we have also been hearing that, while in this phase, we should use the time to explore our soul and shadow side and “clean up” anything that needs to heal or has been holding us back. So, if there is internal clutter…get it organized. Everything around us may be chaotic and confused…but we do not have to internalize it. And, we can certainly transform it by digging in, organizing, and setting things to rights. Thoughts, fears, doubts and all. When we take the time to do this, we create a different energy swirl, and it helps us back to balance and productivity. Commit to clearing the clutter…in both your surroundings and your inner self. From this, new perspective comes clean!

Thoughts Meaning

“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. You are the answer.” ~ Joseph Campbell

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

We are all, at some point, looking for the meaning of Life. But this quote made sense to me in that, Life of itself holds no meaning. Life is just what it is, Life/Living. But it is we who give whatever meaning it has to Life. And, what we bring to that Life, how we decide to live and what choices we make, lends the meaning to our Life. We could sit on the couch and never move…and still have a Life. But it is what we do when we get up off that couch and begin moving around in our Life that gives it purpose, meaning. We are the answer to our question “What is the meaning of Life”. It is that simple. We are the meaning.

Thoughts I Am

“I am who I am today because of the choices I made yesterday.” ~ Author Unknown

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

This quote is so important. Take a look…the life we are living today is because of choices and decisions we made in the past. Our future will form based on the choices and decisions we make today. Past choices cannot be changed, but we can look deeper, pay more attention, and focus on the details of the choices we make in the present…so that our future self will thank us for being so alert to what is the best for us. Even tomorrow is the future. Think about it.
