A Friday Message

This past week the energy has been very tense. Everyone seems to be feeling it. Everywhere I go and everyone I speak with, as well as my clients and myself…are feeling this taut and stressful energy. And we are having a tough time of moving through it. Whether you believe in this sort of thing or not…in my quest to seek the source of this discomforting energy…I found the planets are in a ruckus, with Mercury having gone retrograde a few days ago. I have a certain “connection” to this little planet and its retrograde antics since, maaaaany years ago when I was bartending, I was introduced to its power when I bent down to grab a wine bottle and came up to the drawer of the cash register slamming into my forehead and knocking me out. I was told at the time by someone who follows planetary alignment, etc., that it happened at the very moment of retrograde. Thanks for the message Mercury! I made it a life task to always know when Mercury was on the move.

But, if planetary alignment is not your thing…there is still something very wicked about the energy this week. I have been encouraging everyone to keep taking deep core breaths, staying as balanced as possible, and when the feeling gets too intense…go within and cleanse your energy. However it works for you.

So, it is no surprise that this morning I felt compelled to seek a message from one of my tools to see if we can find some further enlightenment. I was drawn to my deck “Medicine Cards – The Discovery of Power Through The Ways of Animals” by Jamie Sams and David Carson. It seems the animal kingdom has some wisdom to impart  – and the card that came to my hand is:

Frog 1

FROG ~ Cleansing ~ “Bring In The Water, Tears Cleanse Your Feelings, Refill With Well-Being”

Message (paraphrased): “Frog medicine is akin to water energy. Frog teaches us to honor our tears, for they cleanse the soul. All water rites belong to Frog, including all initiations by water. If Frog hopped into the cards today, it may be calling in the cleansing you need. If you were to look at where you are today, would you use any of the following words to describe your condition: tired, overloaded, harried, frustrated, guilty, itchy, nervous, at a loss, empty, weakened?

If so, take a break and allow yourself to bathe in the waters of Frog medicine. This could mean a long, relaxing bath, disconnecting the phone, “yelling” stop, or taking in deep, cleansing breaths. The key thought is to find a way to rid yourself of distractions and to replace the mud with clear energy. Then replenish your parched spirit, body, and mind. Call to Frog and find peace in the process of cleansing to contribute to your new state of serenity and replenishment.”

Frog W 3

from The Desk of MarDrag:

Well, I called that one a bit didn’t I? LOL! When the energy gets this intense, and there does not seem to be a way around it, the best thing to do is hunker down and go within and take care of the Self. We are the ones that have to get through it, and we should nurture and give ourselves the attention we need to maintain until we pass to the other side of that energy.

Take those deep, core breaths…the ones that you inhale past your chest and into your belly. Hold it there a few seconds…then exhale…and as the breath leaves you, imagine all your stress and tension leaving your mind, body, and soul. Do this frequently and keep cleansing that tension. And, take opportunities to “go to the water”…whether it be a long, relaxing bath or shower, swimming, or going to a body of water…as well as drinking lots of water to flush the physical tension. And also…those therapeutic tears…let them come. Let those jewels of teardrops escape, drip from your lashes, roll down your cheeks and splash on your clothes. It is OK! Let them come and cleanse you of all that is causing your tension. Feel the sweet release as you breathe through it. We all feel better after a good cry…and there is nothing at all wrong in allowing ourselves that moment.

Frog T 4

Now…after your cleansing and release…do not forget to fill yourself up with something that will replenish your spirit, mind, and body. Do something nice for yourself, eat a treat, meditate, whatever means something to you that fills you up with well-being and pleasure.

I am not sure just how long this phase of energy will last…but we will get through it. Keep the Focus on cleansing, balancing and replenishing and let the rest of it work itself out. Frog says…flow through it.

Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts Weather 1

“If you want to see the sunshine, you have to weather the storm.”  ~ Frank Lane

MarDrags’ Thoughts: Our lives are so like the weather…there are days of bright sunshine, high winds can blow at times, clouds can gather and hang…and then unleash a fury of rain to soak us and slow us down, and there can be dastardly, debilitating, and dark storms. We can no more change this pattern than we can change the patterns Mother Nature has set down. BUT…we can know that…as furious as a storm can be…the sun and light will always follow…and it will be equally as great as the storm was. So too, we will always pass through life’s storms, stepping into the light again…and we will be stronger and we will know more because of it. Great and beautiful flowers (decisions) are born of great rains (difficulties).

Thoughts Obstacles 2

“Stand up to your obstacles and do something about them. You will find that they haven’t half the strength you think they have.”  ~ Norman Vincent Peale

MarDrags’ Thoughts: Obstacles, I believe, only have as much Power as we give them. If we think an obstacle has more Power than we do…then it will. If we see it for the temporary barrier or hurdle we must pass to get to our goal, its Power shrinks and goes back to where it belongs…within Us. Take your Power back from your obstacles and overcome them.

“It is impossible for you to be angry and laugh at the same time. Anger and laughter are mutually exclusive and you have the power to choose either.”  ~ Wayne Dyer

MarDrags’ Thoughts: Anger does have its place, and it is important to allow ourselves to feel it, not deny it and process it. Anger can be a great motivator…as long as we do not allow it to take over and lead us into difficulties. But…many times we can choose to let go of Anger when its purpose has been fulfilled…or when it is not necessary at all and will only make us unhappy…and we can choose Laughter. Laugh…in the face of Anger…and choose to feel good.

Thoughts Intuition 4

“Intuition is seeing with the soul.”  ~ Dean Koontz

MarDrags’ Thoughts: This really does not need many more words from me does it? It speaks for itself. If we can remember to listen to and follow our Intuitions, we will always be seeing life from a deeper place…from the Soul…and the Soul will always guide us in the right direction. Trust your Intuition!

Tuesday Affirmations ~ Being Unique

It is that time again…time for “Tuesday Affirmations”. The cards practically jumped into my hands today, so ready were they with a message for us. The card that came forward (from the deck “The Gift of Affirmations by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber) is:

The Gift of The New:   “I Love and Accept Myself As A Unique Individual”

The Message:   “Use this gift when it seems that you are not being accepted for any reason, but especially if it is because you are different from other people or you want to be different. You do not need the acceptance of ignorant or intolerant people. You cannot change anyone else. What you need is to love and accept yourself for being a good person.”

Unique 3

from the Desk of MarDrag:

Being accepted. From the time we go on our first “play date”, we experience the feeling of wanting to be accepted by others. Then pre-school and fights over Play-Doh invade our lives…and the push is on. The questions that will play in our minds for the rest of our lives begin. “Will they like me”…”Why don’t they like me?…Why do they like them and not me?”…”What do I have to do/be to be liked?”…and a myriad of other questions and thoughts that plague us. Because, all we really want…is to be accepted…as we are and for who we are.

Unique 4

As we grow up, we learn the hard lesson that not everyone accepts and likes everyone. There will be some who…for whatever reason…just do not like or accept us. It is easy to allow that opinion to impact us and leave us wondering why…am I not good enough…am I different…and what do I need to change so I am accepted “just like everyone else”.

The things is…”accepted just like everyone else”…is a thought that is really only in our minds. Because everyone experiences these same emotions of feeling unaccepted. Even the most popular and well-liked people have their insecurities. It just doesn’t “look” like it from where we stand because we are captured in a cloud of our own dissatisfaction with ourselves. We tend to think the hardest about ourselves…and that, surely, everyone else feels ok. And that makes us feel “different”. Which becomes another reason not to be accepted. A vicious circle.

But what I find, and believe…is that virtually everyone feels this way most of or at some time in their lives. So…we are all really not that different. With respect to our emotions that is! Yet we are each Unique in our individuality, so special that there is no one other person who is just like us…and that is what makes the world such an interesting place. Would we want it any other way?

Unique 2

Yes, there are those that criticize and chastise and ridicule…but this (I believe) is because their own insecurities are so great that they must put others down in order to raise themselves. Most of the time, however, that “raise” is just in their minds as well.

So…if we are all Unique…yet experience the same emotions…what matter is it if we are not accepted by someone else? The only person that should matter…is US. The most important person in our lives to accept and love us…is US. If we fall in love with ourselves, and accept ourselves for the whole of who we are…who could possibly resist doing the same? We would give off that energy…and it is catching!

Unique 5

Love and Acceptance starts within. When we Love and Accept ourselves…then we are far more likely to Love and Accept others. It is a chain reaction.

You are Unique and Wonderful and Brilliant and Lovable…just being You! Love and Accept your Amazing Self…and the world will follow your lead! And if they don’t…it won’t matter! The people in your life who Love and Accept you as your Unique self are who matter…not the ones that don’t.

Those Voices In My Head

“It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not. “  ~ Author Unknown

“If you hear a voice within you saying, ‘You are not a painter,’ then by all means paint
and that voice will be silenced.”
~ Vincent Van Gogh

“If you want to reach a state of bliss, then go beyond your ego and the internal dialogue. Make a decision to relinquish the need to control, the need to be approved, and the need to judge. Those are the three things the ego is doing all the time. It’s very important to be aware of them every time they come up.” ~ Deepak Chopra

“Every waking moment we talk to ourselves about the things we experience. Our self-talk, the thoughts we communicate to ourselves, in turn control the way we feel and act.” ~ John Lembo

“If you celebrate your differentness, the world will, too. It believes exactly what you tell it—through the words you use to describe yourself, the actions you take to care for yourself, and the choices you make to express yourself. Tell the world you are a one-of-a-kind creation who came here to experience wonder and spread joy. Expect to be accommodated.” ~ Victoria Moran

“Your self-talk is the channel of behavior change.”  ~ Gino Norris

from the Desk of MarDrag:

Self-Acceptance is so very influenced by all those voices in our heads, as well as the voices from family, friends, co-workers, or just about anyone we come in contact with on a daily basis. It all affects us.

Voices 1

We are all aware that we have internal dialogue that goes on all day, every day. It is a fact of life. We are multi-faceted beings, with many components and “selves” that make up our whole self. We have an inner parent, an inner child, an inner angry person, an inner peace-maker, an inner genius, an inner ego, an inner wisdom keeper…etc. And these inner selves are all connected to the threads that make up our glorious tapestries, our glorious self. That is a lot of selves to manage in a day. And they all have a voice. Clamoring to be heard. It can get pretty noisy and confusing listening to these voices and trying to decide who to listen to and what to believe about ourselves.

But, the loudest voice of them all, is the voice of the Ego. Now, Ego has some wonderful qualities and values, but I won’t mention those now, for the purpose of this post I mention only the loud, obnoxious, negative, self-serving, know-it-all side of the Ego voice. You know when you meet someone who is egotistical and you say…”well that person really thinks they know it all” or “did you hear the way they spoke?” That is what “this side” of the Ego does when it speaks to us. The Ego absolutely thinks it has to be right all the time, that it knows everything and that there is no voice greater than its own, and it will shout the loudest and longest until all the other voices give up and retreat to the shadows in exhaustion because they “think” they can’t be heard and are tired with trying.

In the quote from Deepak Chopra above, he tells us to go beyond the ego and internal dialogue. Which is so important, and not always easy. But, it is so necessary, so that we can create a space for the other voices to be heard who impart wisdom, compassion and positive energy and the truth about who we really are. Because, you see, the Ego believes everything it is told including all the lies we tell it too. And it will repeat them back to us, as long as we will listen.

How many times a day do we hear ourselves say “I am just not good enough” or “If I could only_______, then I would be happy”. These statements keep us in a constant state of non-acceptance of ourselves, and take on the hamster wheel affect, they keep going round and round, but never get anywhere, and never leave. We have these conversations with ourselves, sometimes battles of back and forth, “I’m good, I’m bad” that leaves us half the time not knowing what we are at all.

So, because we need our Ego…it does have its purpose…we can’t get rid of it, but we can manage its dialogue…when we remember that its voice is under our control, it is our voice, we made it…and we can unmake it or change it. It is in our head, and who has command over what is in our head? Fortunately…we do!

The first step in any change in behavior or thought is to become aware of the issue. Once we are aware, we can’t go back. We know something new now. When I studied all of this, I learned that, for me, a trick that worked in silencing that Ego voice when it was spewing negative (and sometimes vile and ridiculous stuff) was simple:

When I hear my Ego voice say disparaging or negative things, I talk back…and tell it, “Thank you for sharing that, but I don’t think or feel that way, so I am going to choose to listen to ___________ who has something good to say to me.” I say to that voice “I am NOT going to listen to you”. Out loud if I have to. And I look to one of my other voices to comfort and support me.

Much like we do in real life. If we hear our children or loved ones say disparaging things about themselves, are we not ready with compassion and protestations of a positive nature to counter what they are saying? Our heart goes out to them and we want to make them feel and think better of themselves. Especially when we know they ARE better than what they are saying.

So…we need to do that exact same thing for ourselves. Dare to think enough of ourselves that we talk back to that voice and shut it down. After all…we created that voice, so we can uncreate it…or change what it is saying, or listen to another voice any time we want to. It is our absolute choice. It has to be a conscious thing at first, for it takes practice to change habits. But it is a far better way to spend our “thinking” energy in finding positive dialogue than fighting with (or succumbing to) the negative dialogue. Change the tune and the tone. Consciously choose to stop listening to the overrated side of the Ego, and listen to your Inner Parent telling you how great you are, or your Inner Wisdom Keeper who has nuggets and pearls to share, or your Inner Guide so they can give you direction. You can even write positive reminders and tack them to your mirror or computer to remind you throughout the day.

The idea is…that it is ok, even necessary, to actively take back control of our thoughts, of our minds, and remind all those selves that we are in command here, and we will choose what is right for us.

What we think ALWAYS shows itself in how we feel and ultimately how we act and by what manifests.

We have the Power, at any given moment, to say…this is not how this story is worded.

And, to do a rewrite!

Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice was yesterday, June 21, 2013…the official beginning of Summer…the longest day of the year. The time when we soak up the sun and daydream about lazing summer vacations, forming them like castles in the sand. And it is the change in season where we turn to the Sun and reap its warmth…to carry with us into the cold of Winter. The Solstice turns my thoughts to how seasons change within us…and how it is a time to rejoice, for a moment, our emergence from the cold into the Spring, when seeds are tossed, to sprout in the Summer Sun. To celebrate our growth and reward our weary souls…with a pint, perhaps? Here’s Wishing Everyone A Dazzling Summer!

In honor of Summer Solstice, and the annual Supermoon that follows it, I have posted some groovy pictures for your enjoyment. The Solstice, when the sun sits longest and highest in the sky, occurred on June 21st. The Supermoon…which only occurs once a year, will peak on June 23rd. The Moon will be it’s closest to the Earth…so go have a look. I think it is a glorious site, I enjoy every year!

Thoughts For The Day

Imagination 1

“First comes thought; then organization of that thought into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.”  ~ Napoleon Hill

MarDrag’s Thoughts:  All the thoughts, actions, efforts and hard work we put into our desires and dreams would cease to exist as we know them…if not for the Imagination we have that started the process, that gave spark to the idea, in the first place. DARE TO IMAGINE!

See 1

“Change the way you look at things, and the thing you look at changes.”  ~ Author Unknown

MarDrag’s Thoughts: I have said this so many times that I could be that “Author Unknown”! This lesson was a difficult one for me to learn, but when I did, it changed everything. There is another quote too, by H.M. Tomlinson that says, “We see things not as they are, but as we are.” So, we see things through the eyes and souls of our personal experiences. But, if we strive to “see” without preconceived notion, judgment or particular perception…then we see the real clarity…the honest truth of the thing…and it can change what we see…and therefore, our decisions and choices. When we look from within…or work on the parts of ourselves that require healing…it truly does change the way we “see”…and then, what we are looking at, changes too.

Appreciation 2

“We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather, recognizing and appreciating what we do have.”  ~ Frederick Keonig

MarDrag’s Thoughts: Gratitude is such an important thing to make part of our daily lives. In the midst of chaos or difficulty, we focus on the cause of that strife…and we often forget that it is not the totality of our life. It is one puzzle piece in the greater puzzle that makes up our lives. And it is important that we remember to offer up Gratitude for all those other puzzle pieces that are in place and helping to make our lives work. If you are having trouble finding something to be Grateful for…start with the fact that you woke up this morning and are able to read this post! Appreciation for what we have creates a flow that will bring us more of what we Appreciate.

Smiles 1

“What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure, but scattered along life’s pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.”  ~ Joseph Addison

MarDrag’s Thoughts: It is sad to me that…when walking around out in the world these days…I see so many downcast faces, averted eyes, and frowns. Few people smile anymore…or say good morning…or offer a pleasantry.  My heart goes out to them. So…I try to smile a lot…and I find people respond to those smiles. I understand people are no longer accustomed to kindnesses. But, with just a Brilliant Smile, we can win them over! We all need them…and do not get enough of them. So give it a try. Put a Smile on today…and perhaps change someone’s day completely…even your own!

Now…let me take a moment to say how Grateful I am for all of you that come to read here and Appreciate my work with “likes” and comments. I am Grateful for your blogs too…that give me joy and teach me. May your day be Full of Blessings and Smiles! And let me leave you with one of mine to start your day!

Smiles 2
