Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts Born

“You were born with potential. You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals and dreams. You were born with greatness. You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don’t.You have wings.Learn to use them and fly.”  ~ Rumi

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

When we come into this world, we are a clean palette, looking at the world with innocent eyes, and taking at face value what we see and experience every day. And, every single day is a learning experience, another opportunity to learn to talk, walk, play, and figure out which shape fits into which hole on the toy thingy. It is unfortunate that as we grow up, we are ever faced with the negative aspects of life, and, by the time we are adults, we have completely forgotten the innocence, the belief in goodness, the trust, and the wide-eyed wonder we were born with. Seek to re-discover those lost gifts, if even just a little bit. Dare to remember the wings you were born with and the belief that you could fly.

Thoughts Humor

“Through humor you can soften some of the blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you survive it.”  ~ Bill Cosby

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

A few months after I started this blog, I realized I was writing about a great many deep thoughts and issues…and when I “made a joke” people laughed and found relief. So, I started the now regular Wednesday “Hump Day Humor” post…to give everyone a mid-week break. I get comments from people who share how much they needed that chuckle. I firmly believe that comic relief feeds the soul, and gives it a needed respite. As Bill Cosby says, humor softens the blows life hurls at us, and relieves some of that stress they cause. Even if circumstances in your life are hard and worrisome…find a way to find some laughter in your day and give yourself that gift. It is amazing how far a funny moment can take you!

Thoughts Wink

“A gentle word, a kind look, a good-natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles.”  ~ William Hazlitt

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Give it a try. Smile on purpose. Say a kind word. Open a door. Do random acts of kindness. Especially if you wake for the day in a disgruntled mood…actively do these things and see how your mood and your day changes. Most important of all…start by doing these things…to and for yourself! Smile at yourself in the mirror. You deserve a good-natured wink and a kind word. Who better to give it, than you!

Blessings!

Tuesday Affirmation ~ Belief In Self

I have been writing about other things lately and have not done an “Affirmation Tuesday” post in a while. The cards called for me this morning…and so, as always, I answer the summons. The card that came to hand with today’s message is:

Tuesday 4

Affirmation of Perseverance: “I Believe In Myself Now, Always, And In All Ways”

Message: Use this gift when you feel like a failure or others seem to doubt your abilities. Your strengths and weaknesses are yours to experience and learn from in your own time. Accept yourself just as you are now, knowing that the mistakes you have made helped guide the direction of your personal growth. It is never too late to change.”

from The Desk of MarDrag:

It is always easier to accept ourselves and recognize our abilities when things are going well and working in our lives. We can see the benefit of our fine qualities and skills and feel some pride for having accomplished something good and worthy.

But, let us fail a time or two, and the story we tell ourselves is profoundly different. Often at these times, the story we hear from others is negative also, and we chastise and flog ourselves with disdain and disappointment for having failed, or for not being able to fix what is not working. And then…we doubt those same qualities we were once proud of.

Tuesday 3

But, if we could remember that we all, each and every one of us, have strengths as well as weaknesses, then we could know that success and failure are all just part of life…and if we live life to the fullest…we will all have a helping of both that fills our plate.

The affirmation is so true…mistakes help guide us to knowledge and personal growth. A mistake or misjudgment is what lets us know we need to learn more about ourselves and our circumstances. We always have the option to learn and grow…so we are never truly stuck in one state or another.

No matter what anyone else thinks…and in spite of what you may tell yourself…Believe in your Personal Power and the Power to Change. Nothing ever stays the same. It is the one fact we can count on…change.

Tuesday 2

So, accept yourself, in all your glorious imperfectness…embrace your strengths and weaknesses…and follow the direction that your inner voice of experience guides you to. And too, if something is not working, do not clog your self-worth with words of chastisement. Instead, tell yourself you Believe in the Gift of Perseverance…and coupled with the constant of change…you can be sure that you will, indeed, grow and move forward. Believe!

Blessings!

Losing Our Way

I had a dream early this morning. It was one of those incredibly vivid ones that you have after you wake up and then fall back to sleep. As soon as I woke from it, I took to my computer to share it with you, while the images and message were still sparklingly clear. The dream was this:

Dream Road

I was in my car, driving home from an event, my sister in her car behind me. We were in a rural area, with a beautiful landscape of trees and a babbling brook, and I was enjoying the drive. I was aware that I had driven this road many, many times and I knew my way well. As I was enjoying the scenery, I began to notice that it was becoming unfamiliar. The road had taken an odd turn and I no longer recognized the area. I started to think to myself, how silly I was that I had gotten off the familiar road and apparently was lost. I looked around and did not recognize anything. I started to feel very uncomfortable and decided to stop somewhere and ask directions, which was odd that I even needed to do this. I always know my way. It was daylight.

The place I ended up stopping at was a house that looked inviting. I somehow felt safe going to the door, knocking, and asking the people within if they could guide me back to my familiar road. They invited me in. I saw that it was a large family…a husband and wife, a teenage daughter and 4 smaller children ranging in ages from about 3 or 4 to 10 years old. Boys and girls. The energy in the house was very calm, even with that many people and boisterous children. It was a lived in house too, with the typical mess of strewn toys, stacked dishes, and flung clothes…but it wasn’t off putting…it was…comfortable.

Dream House

I began asking the husband if he could tell me how to get back to “my road” and he started talking to me, but not about directions. I didn’t listen very closely and began asking the wife. She was telling me just to relax, we would figure it all out. The husband then took all of us outside…for a nature walk! I am thinking, oh good, he is going to show me the road and my way out of here. Not so. We went for a long walk, admiring the countryside and picking leaves. The children were skipping and babbling about their little lives…and I was becoming more and more impatient. I kept asking, but what about my road?

When we arrived back at the house, I realized I had my cell phone with me and said to myself, again silly me, why didn’t I just call home for directions. But when I went to find my contact list or home numbers, they were not in the phone. I also realized that, even though I was many hours late to have arrived home….no one had called my cell looking for me or wondering why I was so late.

I began to get frantic now. The children were still playing around me, the husband and wife were in their room getting ready for “date night”, and it was now getting dark out. I was in a real panic by this time thinking, if I couldn’t find my way in the light of day, how was I going to find my way in the dark. I began to really freak out, running through the house looking for the couple and asking, loudly, why can’t you just give me directions! In typical teenage fashion, the girl told me to chill out, her parents would tell me when they were ready. I was still trying to get my phone working and was wondering why my car was no longer in front of the house either. All my navigation and information devices had either disappeared or were not working like they always did or were supposed to.

Dream Navigation

In full frenzied panic now, I began to cry and lament at how nonchalant these people were about my predicament. I couldn’t understand why this family was not more concerned about me finding my way home. The mother finally came out of the bedroom from getting ready, looking marvelous. The children and their dog were clamoring around me asking me to play with them. I was so confused!

When the husband came out, in his maddeningly calm way, he told me why didn’t I just stay there that night, relax and play with the kids and we would find a map in the morning. I got really mad and went into the bathroom. (BTW – they had this awesome toilet paper with beautiful scenes of lush trees and little blue streams on it. Must find some!)

So, I was in the bathroom, sitting on the commode with the dog there with me, looking up at me with soulful eyes as tears splashed down my cheeks, frustrated and confused…and I realized something…like a flash of light bursting forth…

Sometimes, we lose our way. We think we are on the right road, but circumstances happen that change the scenery and we lose direction…even when we think we know the road so well. Especially when it becomes so familiar. At these times, our usual navigation devices…the things we know to do to get back on that road and we have always relied on before…stop working or do not work the same as they had been. We ask or pray for directions, but they do not come. We go into panic mode, frustrated at why something so important to us is not being attended to or answered in the time frame we expect or demand it to. We get frustrated and angry, upset that we can’t seem to figure it all out and we feel silly for having lost our way on a familiar road in the first place.

Dream Lost

So…when this happens…the best thing to do is…stay put, right where you are…and wait for the morning light. And, look around at what is right there in front of you, it is there for a reason.

This family kept telling me to relax, look around and notice them and their surroundings and enjoy my time with them. I was so busy looking for a way out that…until I went to the bathroom and saw the awesome toilet paper, I did not notice all the beauty, joy, love and laughter around me. I was constantly looking out the window and trying to find my road.

If you are lost…stay put until things become clear. It IS ok to pause.  Look around you at the things you DO have that are good and full, enjoy your surroundings, stop looking for the road and lamenting the things that are not working…and wait for the morning light that will show you the way. Sometimes…we have to wait for the right thing to come to us, but in waiting, we should not forget that there is so much right there, right in front of us, in which to find delight, peace and comfort. And it is when we lay down our panic, anger and frustration, which is clogging our vision, that we find the things we are meant to be tending to…and our way, our road, comes into the light and becomes clear.

Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts Water

“Adaptability: A wise man adapts himself to circumstances as water shapes itself to the vessel that contains it.”  ~ W. R. Inge

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Everyday we are faced with Life Circumstances. Some are positive. Some are negative. Some we can change. Some we cannot. But the key to managing any and all circumstances…is Acceptance of them…and Adapting to their affect. To either embrace a circumstance, or to change one…the first step is to Accept it as a reality. It is happening. And then Adapt to it, as the water does to the vessel…Accepting its weight, girth and presence. It is then that we can see what measures to take. We must be fluid, like the water, and allow Wisdom to flow within our vessel, our soul, to aid us on our Journey.

Thoughts Moment

“As you walk and eat and travel,be where you are. Otherwise you will miss most of your life.” ~ Buddha

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Be in the moment! Each and every moment is a gift to be treasured. If we spend too much time pining for or regretting the past, or worrying about the future, we will miss the greatness of this moment. Don’t look away…what if what you want is ready to happen now…and you are too busy looking backward or forward to see it? Don’t miss the magic of your life this moment has to give.

Thoughts Tree Limb

“Go out on a limb. That’s where the fruit is.”  ~ Jimmy Carter

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Take a chance. Take that chance you have been mulling over. That voice you hear full of fear and keeping you from doing it…that voice is a false voice. It only tells you to fear because it is afraid you will stop listening and it will cease to exist. As the quote says…if we never go out on the limb, take a chance, we will never know what fruit our actions would bear. Never knowing is far worse than trying and failing. Remember, the mighty and magical Oak begins as a tiny seed too.

How Great Your Power

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”  ~ Alice Walker

“Personal power is the ability to stand on your own two feet with a smile on your face in the middle of a universe that contains a million ways to crush you.”  ~ J.Z. Colby

“It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.”  ~ Buddha

“Most powerful is he who has himself in his own power.”  ~ Seneca

“By banishing doubt and trusting your intuitive feelings, you clear a space for the power of intention to flow through.”  ~ Wayne Dyer

“If it can be thought, it can be done, a problem can be overcome.”  ~ E. A. Bucchianeri

“But that’s the challenge – to change the circumstance more than it changes you.”  ~ Michael Pollan

Power 1

from The Desk of MarDrag:

This has been a difficult couple of weeks for everyone. I have spoken to so many who are discouraged with the daily news…and with their lives…and are questioning how we can possibly overcome the negative energy sweeping our world. They are questioning the strength of their Power…and whether it makes a difference at all. They ask if they should even keep trying. Blue moods and fatigue are overwhelming. I feel their pain and worry, and my heart goes out to each and every one. If I could take all this away, I would. Gladly.

But, since that is not possible, what I will try to do is bolster you, shore you up with words of support and encouragement. I will be a buoy for you to hold on to, a prop for you to lean on, and help bear your load until you are stronger. I will reinforce for you the truth that you are greater than you think you are at this moment, that you do have a wealth of might and vigor to draw upon, even if you don’t see it or feel it right now. It does not mean it is not inside you. You just have to tap the well a little deeper.

Power 7

But the one thing I want to do most for you…is to remind you that…your Personal Power is greater than anything circumstances can throw at you! The mountains before you may look high…but your Power is bigger, taller and far more supreme than any situation the Universe has put in your path. Will we let those circumstances best us? Or rise up to draw on and utilize our Power as it was meant to be used…as it was given to us. Use your Power to change how you feel about the circumstance even if it is not ready to change in the physical. Stand up to it, collect your energy, and wrap it back around you. It will sustain you. If you give it Power. Don’t give your Power away to the mountain, feeding it to make it bigger. Stand in the face of that mountain and show it how big your Power is. It won’t dare face you down. It will shrink to perspective in the shadow of your authority.

Power 3

We must live everyday as our True Self and shine our Power and Light into the world…even if we are not sure of its affect. We cannot give in…at some point, we will start to recover. And it will be because we did not give up, and that we stood as Spiritual Warriors and refused to allow our Power to diminish for any reason. If we all do this, we can Link By The Light of Our Souls…and that will be a force to behold! Live in the Strength of your Power!

Rune For A Monday

Since last evening, I have had a small voice within nudging me to seek the Runes for today’s post. So, as with all messages, I heed the call and gather the Rune stones and “The Book of Runes” by Ralph Blum to see what wisdom they are to impart to us today. And the Rune that comes to my hand is:

Algiz

Algiz:  “Protection, Sedge or Rushes”

Message (paraphrased):   “Control of the emotions is at the issue here. During times of transition, shifts in life course and accelerated self-change, it is important not to collapse yourself into your emotions – the highs as well as the lows. New opportunities and challenges are typical of this Rune. And with them will come trespasses and unwanted influences.

Algiz serves as a mirror for the Spiritual Warrior, the one whose battle is always with the Self. The protection of the Warrior is like the warning rustle of the sedge grass, which serves to keep open space around you. Remain mindful that timely action and correct conduct are the only true protection. If you find yourself feeling pain, observe the pain, stay with it. Don’t try to pull the veil down and escape from life by denying what is happening. You will progress; knowing that is your protection.”

Algiz Warrior

from The Desk of MarDrag:

“Control of the emotions”…not always an easy thing to accomplish. With all the movement in our lives these days…transitions, change, self-growth, world upset and change, great successes or great disappointments…emotions erupt, whether good or bad. It seems the energy has accelerated, time has sped up.

It is a lot to handle.

What Algiz is telling us here is…strive for Balance, daily. It may sound easier said than done, but it is the very thing that will cradle us and carry us forward. Taking care of the Self is one of the most important things necessary to our quality of life in the current chaos. We must Protect ourselves by paying close attention to what our Soul and Higher Self tell us about right action.

Algiz Protection

An animal standing in a field listens for the rustle of the sedge grass or rushes to alert him of something or someone approaching. He will then have a moment to sense if there is danger or if he is safe. Use your senses as Protection and keep that clear space around you so you can have time to assess what is happening in your life and make better choices.

Algiz Sedges

Do not shy away or hide. Now is the time to step into your life, being fully present, and face what is happening…with the knowledge that, as a Spiritual Warrior, you have all that you need to progress. Be Brave and Seek Balance.

Blessings!
