Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts Plane

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” ~ Henry Ford

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Sometimes it feels like the world is working against us, but we have the power to fly into it, face it, rise above it…and soar. Face the wind…and listen.

Thoughts Discouragement

“Discouragement is a negative emotion with more than one trick up its dark sleeve. It tricks you into mentally or emotionally dwelling in the very place you want to leave. Drop all such sorrow permanently by daring to see through this deception of the unconscious mind. You have a destination far beyond where you find yourself standing today”  ~ Guy Finley

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Remember, there is a bigger picture than just the snapshot you are looking at today. This day and its difficulties do not define you as a whole person, or the whole of your life. Tomorrow, you will wake and have another chance to do it differently or make another choice. Trick the trickster of the deception Guy Finley speaks of and see through it, thereby taking all the power away from that negative emotion. Seek to have the courage to step out of discouragement, who only wants us to stay there because, on it’s own, it has no power.

Thoughts Cosmic

“We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.”  ~ Paul Coelho

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Sometimes, when I am in a deep reflective mood, I think about the vastness of the universe, all the stars, planets, and living things that inhabit our world. I think about the expanse of time…how it has gone on and will go on eternally. I think about all those people who have gone before us…and those that will come after us. And the hugeness of all of that puts any problems or discomforts I have into perspective. What becomes most important is what the quote says above…”we stop for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, love, and share.” That is, indeed, the most precious moment of our existence. Everything else just falls away, will change or evolve. Make those precious moments count!

The Gift of Giving

One of my favorite bloggers, http://risinghawkspeaks.wordpress.com/, wrote a poem the other day called “Unworthy”, about giving and hope, that brought back the memory of an incident that happened to me years ago. I have not been able to get it off my mind, and felt compelled to write about it here.  (Go to his blog to read this remarkable poem, among others!)

The incident that related to this poem happened many years ago…but started me on a path of learning about Unconditional Love…and I have never forgotten the incident or its message. This is what happened:

Judge 3

Many years ago, I was taking my teenage daughter to work very early one day. Dawn was still drawing its lazy covers off the morning, just as I had pulled myself, reluctantly, from my warm bed for obligation. I was, admittedly, grumpy that morning. While I never begrudged my amazing and hard working daughter a lift to work, I sometimes “had my moment”, as we all do. We needed to stop for gas and, while she was pumping, I was sitting in the car still wrapped in gossamer threads of dreamtime, awake enough to drive, but still longing for my warm covers.

As I sat, lamenting the chilly morning, a scraggly man with rumpled clothes and a cardboard sign came up to my window and knocked on it. He was bleary eyed, and had not shaven in some time. He was clearly in need. But in my little nucleus of ill-temper that morning, I did not look past my own discomfort to his…and I sent him away…grumbling to myself that he would likely have just bought alcohol or drugs with the money I gave him, if I had given any.

As he trudged down the road, I stewed in my crossness, feeling even worse, because I am a giver. Then…and I firmly and openly attest to this…a light came from somewhere, infusing the dusk of the gloomy dawn…and it came on me. In a second, I snapped awake and a thought came flooding to my mind. “What if, at this moment, I was called to test. What if that man was a Divine being, or God, or however you name it for yourself…and I was being challenged to show the love for human kind that I speak of within me?” It was a changing moment for me.

Judge 5

I opened the car door, ran, and caught up with the man. I gave him a handsome gift…but it was not the size of the gift that I gave it for. I gave it…because of the size of the lesson that the moment held for me.

I walked away thinking…this was a human being in need. It did not matter WHAT he spent the money on…just that he was in need. IF he did spend the money on booze…was that the only thing he had left in his life that represented relief, or joy to him? And who was I to judge how and where he came from and how he had landed in that position. And too, what if that was just my own judgment talking…and he really spent the money on food, or shelter? Was I only going to give to those I deemed worthy of the gift?

What I came away with that day, is that Giving is an act that should be done for the sake of the act…not with any attachment to what the other will do with what is given. True “Giving” is done unconditionally, with no judgment on the receiver…or any thought on the gift at all after it has left our hands and heart. Give for the sake of Giving, and the pleasure it gives us to know we are doing something for another should be the gift that comes back to us.

Judge 4

Unconditional Love and Giving has no attachment to any outcome or to where the gift will go or how it will be used. We gave…with an open heart and with Love. THAT is what counts!

NOW…THIS DOES NOT MEAN…that we Give to the point of being taken advantage of. There are those that will seek to destroy our generosity by doing this. But, it is in those instances that we Give ourselves the gift of Discernment, and, if we are being mis-used, we think enough of ourselves to stop the pattern. Any way you look at it though…we are Giving. Whether to ourselves or others. And that is the point.

Judge 6

Remember…it does not take away from a candle to use it to light anothers. Once the flame is shared, it stays alight, and glows amid all the other wicks it shared its spark with. How awesome do you think that candle feels…for having shared its Light, its Flame, with others…watching the glimmering radiance of another coming to Light.

Strive to share your Light. The smile on the receiver is the greatest gift of all!

Blessings!

Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts 1“You may have a fresh start at any moment you choose, for this thing that we call “failure” is not the falling down, but the staying down.”  ~ Mary Pickford

MarDrag’s Thoughts: I love this quote for its simple truth. We all fall down sometimes in life, or things do not work out as we planned or expected. We are quick to call ourselves failures and become depressed or feel hopeless. But…it is only failure if we fall…and stay down. If we fall and wallow in the muck of misery…we inevitably will get stuck and make it harder to get out of it. If we can look at the falls we have, or the mistakes we make, or the sometimes unfortunate turn things can take as stepping stones to get to where we are meant to go…then we can not fail at all…for all those things contain messages and lessons that, if learned, make us that much more ready to move on to be a success. And…at any moment…we can decide to step out of the muck and have a fresh start. Go ahead…lift your foot…and take the step!

Thoughts 2

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”  ~ Gandhi

MarDrag’s Thoughts: We cannot possibly find happiness, or be happy, if the things we think, say, and do are at odds with each other. If we say one thing but do another…we are not living in truth. Even worse is when we think one way, but say and do another. We are only fooling ourselves in these cases, and render a constant state of confusion, for ourselves and for those around us. Strive for alignment of the mind, heart, soul and body. Be honest, with everyone but most importantly your Self…and you will find Balance…which leads to Harmony.

Thoughts 3

“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”  ~ Buddha

MarDrag’s Thoughts: In my opinion, we as a society have forgotten to be there for each other…we have forgotten that we are all connected. And even further…we have forgotten that we need each other and need to work together to make this world a better place to live in. It seems it is “every man for himself” today and that there is a fear that if we give something of ourselves, we are giving it away never to see it again, and we fear we will lack. But as Buddha says…Happiness and Kindness never decreases when shared. In fact, I believe it increases when shared. Today…share a little bit of your happiness with someone…and see it grow within and around you. Light that candle.

Thoughts 4

“There is a calmness to a life lived in gratitude, a quiet joy.”  ~ Ralph Blum

MarDrag’s Thoughts: Be grateful for the gift of your life. Always racing on the next best thing takes a lot of energy and does not guarantee happiness and satisfaction. Be grateful for what you do have. Within that grateful glow is a sense of peace…like you can stop for a moment and enjoy what you have already achieved. Experience the calm and the joy of Gratitude.

Blessings!

A Rune’s Message ~ Initiation & Transformation

I have mentioned here before that I have different books, cards, writings and tools that I use to find inspiration and messages as I journey down this path that Destiny and the Universe have set me upon…and I have chosen to follow. Today, I awoke with a strong sense to go quiet…and seek the Runes…an ancient alphabetic script, whose letters possess a meaningful name and message. The Vikings painted these runic symbols on their shields before going to battle. In the same sense, we can use the messages of these Runes as a protective shield, since knowledge of the self can transform a battle with the self into awareness, and with that, we lay our life swords aside for a time and find peace. The book that contains the translations and messages for my set of Runes is by Ralph Blum.

Today’s Rune that came to my hand is:   PERTH: Initiation,  A Secret Matter

Perth 2

The Message (paraphrased): “A Rune of mystery, pointing to that which is beyond our frail manipulative powers. Its ways are secret and hidden. Deep inner transformational forces are at work here. Yet what is achieved is not easily or readily shared. An integrity is involved that may be masked, disguised, or secret. After all, becoming whole, the means of it, is a profound secret.

On the side of the earthly or mundane, there may well be surprises; unexpected gains are not unlikely. On the side of human nature, this Rune is symbolized by the flight of the Eagle. Soaring flight, free from entanglement, lifting yourself above the endless ebb and flow of ordinary life to acquire broader vision – all this is indicated here. This is the Rune of questing.

Perth signifies that…Nothing external matters here, except as it shows its inner reflection. This Rune is concerned with the deepest stratum of being, with the bedrock on which your destiny is founded. If need be, let go of everything, no exceptions, no exclusions. Nothing less than the renewal of the Spirit is at stake.”

from the Desk of MarDrag:

Our journey through life, though we share it with many on many different levels, is really a very private, personal and secret initiation. Though we may disclose thoughts, feelings and events with others, there are the very deep, soul wrenching reflections that we keep to ourselves, for ourselves, as our secret conversations to be held hidden. And rightly so. It is a personal integrity we have for ourselves, and our deepest most acutely intense concepts about ourselves. As the Rune states, the means of becoming whole is profound, and is not to be shared lightly…or perhaps ever.

Transformation, though we do not always realize it or are aware of it, is always at work in some form. And at times, it is even kept hidden from us, until we are ready to see. There are forces at work around us at all times. I believe if we were always aware of it, we would be too overwhelmed with its power and momentum. This is why we live on a plane in the mundane. It is sometimes necessary so we have time and space to integrate the various levels of transformation, and assimilate the power of the forces around us…or we might spin into to a hurricane of energy we cannot process.

But…when we are called to it…and our path requires it…we must seek to soar like the Eagle, and rise above the mundane to lift ourselves free of the entanglements, the chains, that keep us bound to the mundane. We must live in the world, but not of it. We must ground ourselves to the physical even as we soar above all that is material to see the broader view. That is the quest of the Spiritual Warrior.

The Rune states that… “Nothing external matters here, except as it shows its inner reflection”. So, what is right before us, what may be happening now, is not the point. It is the deeper meaning that it reflects that we are called to see. We must look beyond what we “think” the meaning is to what we “see”, which is gained from a far different perspective. It is from above, outside, the mundane of everyday life that we will find this vision.

Perth calls us to “let go of everything”…which I believe to mean…let go of our attachment to everything and the desire to manipulate its outcome. Surrender it all to the infinite knowledge that it knows what to do, and is in force…while we attempt to take action…when the only action we should be taking, is to Let Go.

It is at that unfathomable, cavernous, yawning moment of complete surrender…at the very base of our nature…that Transformation of the Spirit, Renewal of the Spirit, takes place. This is the action of the Spiritual Warrior. Have courage…for the phoenix may step into the fire, but always rises, Transformed, into its greatest Self.

Blessings!
