Weekend Inspiration ~ Our Powerful Self in A Crazy World

I think we can all agree…it is a mess “out there”. And as it spirals every day, we get caught in that whirlwind and we can find ourselves wondering if everything is going to be ok. Are we going to be ok. What does the future look like and how do we have faith in it? All these thoughts tumble around, news seeps in, and before long…we are feeling down and powerless, our heads taking over our hearts, and wondering how we will get through it all. I say this, because I have had these feelings recently.

But out of those depths came this – That, no matter how we feel “in our heads”…that is, no matter how low, insecure, or defeated we can feel at times…under those emotions…we are still the Person and Soul we always are…this does not change. It is only our negative feelings that take over our minds…but in our heart and soul…we are still the Powerful Spirit we have grown into, that does not change just because we feel insecure or defeated.

Our lovely minds can go so many places with fear and anxiety…and certainly there are many reasons now for that. But that is just the mind. It sends us in circles up there…but down in the depths of our heart, soul, and character…those things do not change just because we think or feel insecure. We are still the Powerful Being we have always been.

I turn in anguish, sometimes, at the messages spewed through our news and internet…and the negativity they carry. That negative energy wants to seep in and take hold of us.

BUT, even then, it still does not change the fact that we are who we are and we have our own Power, Strength, and Purpose built in to our Being, our unique Self.

Remember all the while that…no matter what our feelings or troubles are…our Core Self which holds our Power, Strength, and Purpose, and Gifts is still there, living inside us, supporting us, and waiting for us.

Truth cannot be destroyed…it just is. So, the True Self will always prevail.

Never let anyone, thing, or circumstance make you feel you are less than what you are worth. Your True Self knows that worth…Listen!

And don’t forget to do those things that cultivate, feed, and nurture your True Self and Personal Power. Whatever that may be…meditation, gardening, singing, writing, praying…whatever feeds your Soul…do it! Let the world stay outside your boundary for those moments and give yourself the gift…of You.

Weekend Inspiration ~ Signs of Life

Signs 9

“Beyond the edge of the world there’s a space where emptiness and substance neatly overlap, where past and future form a continuous, endless loop. And, hovering about, there are signs no one has ever read, chords no one has ever heard.” ~ Haruki Murakami

“I look for a sign. Where to go next. You never know when you’ll get one.” ~ Jillian Lauren

Signs 8

Life is full and rich…and filled with Signs that can guide us, if we pay attention. Some are huge and hit us square in the face…and some are subtle and hard to catch because they want our full attention…here in the moment…not distracted by the mental chatter that keeps us off balance.

Sometimes life is random…but then there are Signs, Coincidence, Synchronicity, and Serendipity. Kismet if you will…when all the messages, energy, and purpose collide in one spectacular creation that gives us the gift of manifestation of dreams and desires. If we focus, and pay attention, and look past all the distractions…we can catch those Signs and make them work for us.

What Signs of Life will you see in your world today? Blessings!

How Great Our Power ~ Re-Post

PP 1

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” ~ Alice Walker

“Personal power is the ability to stand on your own two feet with a smile on your face in the middle of a universe that contains a million ways to crush you.” ~ J.Z. Colby

“It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.” ~ Buddha

“Most powerful is he who has himself in his own power.” ~ Seneca

“By banishing doubt and trusting your intuitive feelings, you clear a space for the power of intention to flow through.” ~ Wayne Dyer

“But that’s the challenge – to change the circumstance more than it changes you.” ~ Michael Pollan

PP 2

from the Desk of MarDrag:

This has been a difficult couple of weeks for everyone. I have spoken to so many who are discouraged with the daily news…and with their lives…and are questioning how we can possibly overcome the negative energy sweeping our world. They are questioning the strength of their Power…and whether it makes a difference at all. They ask if they should even keep trying. Blue moods and fatigue are overwhelming. I feel their pain and worry, and my heart goes out to each and every one. If I could take all this away, I would. Gladly.

But, since that is not possible, what I will try to do is bolster you, shore you up with words of support and encouragement. I will be a buoy for you to hold on to, a prop for you to lean on, and help bear your load until you are stronger. I will reinforce for you the truth that you are greater than you think you are at this moment, that you do have a wealth of might and vigor to draw upon, even if you don’t see it or feel it right now. It does not mean it is not inside you. You just have to tap the well a little deeper.

But the one thing I want to do most for you…is to remind you that…your Personal Power is greater than anything circumstances can throw at you! The mountains before you may look high…but your Power is bigger, taller and far more supreme than any situation the Universe has put in your path. Will we let those circumstances best us? Or rise up to draw on and utilize our Power as it was meant to be used…as it was given to us. Use your Power to change how you feel about the circumstance even if it is not ready to change in the physical. Stand up to it, collect your energy, and wrap it back around you. It will sustain you. If you give it Power. Don’t give your Power away to the mountain, feeding it to make it bigger. Stand in the face of that mountain and show it how big your Power is. It won’t dare face you down. It will shrink to perspective in the shadow of your authority.

PP 4

We must live everyday as our True Self and shine our Power and Light into the world…even if we are not sure of its affect. We cannot give in…at some point, we will start to recover. And it will be because we did not give up, and that we stood as Spiritual Warriors and refused to allow our Power to diminish for any reason. If we all do this, we can Link By The Light of Our Souls…and that will be a force to behold! Live in the Strength of your Power!

Weekend Inspiration ~ Being Enough

We have busy, stressful, jam-packed lives these days, with many tasks and obligations. There is so much more opportunity for judgment, of ourselves and of others. We can get overwhelmed trying to keep up, and feel like we are not doing enough, accomplishing enough, we are not smart enough or “fill in the blank” enough. And certainly, we can all do “better”, strive to grow and learn and achieve more. BUT…what about this moment we occupy, and the beauty of its possibilities. AND…what about all the progress we have made in our lives, all the efforts and sacrifices and work we do to keep moving forward, or sometimes, just to keep moving.

In this world, everyone is striving for “the next best thing”…but what about now? In this moment, can we be Enough? In this moment, can we allow ourselves to be content with who we are, what we have done, and where we look to the future? Because…if we can’t see ourselves as Enough, right now just as we are, then we will never be content with where we are going.

Today…practice knowing you are Enough. Lay down those judgments and negative thoughts about what you haven’t done or accomplished…and just Be Enough. Know that you are a whole, vibrant, amazing soul…just as you are. We can all be greater than we are…but we are the greatest if we recognize that, in this moment, no matter what anyone else thinks…we are Enough. Blessings!

Thoughts For The Day

TH 1

“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” ~ Martin Buber

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

On our Journey, our Life Path, there are Destinations we see, aspire to, and reach. Destination is what keeps us going, with the desire, hope, and success of reaching them. BUT…we cannot always know every Destination life has planned for us. Some Destinations are secret…because they either hold a tremendous reward, or a profound lesson. Those Destinations are a combination of our efforts on our Path and the forces of the Higher Powers, Destiny if you will, that guide us on our Path. If we knew every detail or every end point, than would we see a need to even make the effort? Life’s little tricks! In addition, our Paths and Destinations change all the time, depending on our Choices and Decisions.

Experiencing Life is our Purpose, the Destination is the cherry on top. And isn’t Destiny a form of the word Destination to begin with? So, it is our Destiny to reach our Destinations. That may help us worry less about how we get there and enjoy our Path more fully along the way.

TH 2a

“Even the smallest changes in our daily routine can create incredible ripple effects that expand our vision of what is possible.” ~ Charles F. Glassman

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

Sometimes, we can get in rut. We repeat the days, over and over, focusing on our obligations, work, and families, etc…and we can forget about the Magic of Life. That Magic that swirls and hangs outside our normal routine. That routine creates a circle around us, and very little gets in that is new. So, to bring Magic back into the circle, back into our lives…all we need to do…is make a small, simple change. Just start with one. Walk a different way today. Take a different route to work. Go to a different grocery store. Take up a new hobby. Reach out to someone you have not heard from in a long time. Something. One thing…Different. It is amazing how that can Create Change…and can open our vision to so many new possibilities. Get Creative. Go ahead…try it. Just to see.

TH 3

“Challenge is a dragon with a gift in its mouth. Tame the dragon and the gift is yours.” ~ Noela Evans

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

We have all heard the phrase about “taming our dragons”…meaning overcoming our challenges to reap the rewards. It is one of my favorite quotes…because of the Dragons. I have made friends with mine, and they are now my companions and guides rather than a symbol of negativity or difficulty. Both the words Challenge and Dragon conjure apprehension, fear, and “battle” in most people. But, as the quote says, both words also hold a great gift…if we can look past the fear and face them. Dragons are formidable creatures, but are lovers of treasure, and hoard it, saving it for special gifts. If you are friends with a Dragon, it will share its treasures with you. But, it also wants to know you will cherish the gift and use it well. Challenges are much the same. They hold a gift, buried within its lesson, and if we “tame” it…that is face it straight on and, through right action, come to its resolution…then there is a sparkly, rich gem of wisdom there for our taking, to treasure and use through our life.

Wouldn’t we rather have the jewels…than a dusty path with no pebbles or hurdles at all? And it is those pebbles that buff our Spirit into the Warrior that it is. So tame and make friends with those Dragons. All that glitters…is yours.

Acceptance and Stepping Outside The Cloud

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” ~ Lao Tzu

“For after all, the best thing one can do when it is raining is let it rain.” ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“You couldn’t relive your life, skipping the awful parts, without losing what made it worthwhile. You had to accept it as a whole–like the world, or the person you loved.” ~ Stewart O’Nan

“I am my own biggest critic. Before anyone else has criticized me, I have already criticized myself. But for the rest of my life, I am going to be with me and I don’t want to spend my life with someone who is always critical. So I am going to stop being my own critic. It’s high time that I accept all the great things about me.” ~ C. JoyBell C.

“The best way is not to fight it, just go. Don’t be trying all the time to fix things. What you run from only stays with you longer. When you fight something, you only make it stronger.” ~ Chuck Palahnuik

“Maturity, one discovers, has everything to do with the acceptance of “not knowing.” ~ Mark Z. Danielewski

Cloud 5

from The Desk of MarDrag:

Acceptance is often a word and concept that is misunderstood. I wanted to write a bit about it today, because I have an analogy that I think might be helpful. Many of my clients, family, and friends have been talking about Acceptance lately, and the difficulty of…Accepting Acceptance.

So, let’s begin with the standard definition of Acceptance, which, by dictionary standard is:
• The act of assenting or believing; the act of accepting something or someone
• The quality or state of being accepted
• Belief in something; agreement

We are all familiar with these definitions…and can see why they would be hard to “Accept’ sometimes when things are going on in our lives that we do not want to happen or we do not agree with. So, we think that if we Reject them…that is, that we do not Accept them…we are doing something good for ourselves and trying to change things. In part…this is true.

BUT…there is another layer to Acceptance. Because there are some things in life we cannot change…or are not meant to change. Some things, we are meant to experience, exactly as they present themselves to us, because there is a higher purpose to it or a life lesson we need to learn to move forward. In addition…sometimes there are things in life that “just happen”, and if we spend all of our precious time and energy fighting them, well, then we have no energy left for solving them.

Cloud 3

So here is the thing…Acceptance is not just “rolling over and accepting” all that happens to us. It is Discerning when we can change something and when we can’t, and choosing our attitude about how we deal with it.

The difference is…that we Accept that the circumstance is happening. In the moment…we agree that, yes, this thing is happening. We may not want it to, we may have fear and angst about it…and certainly, if there is something we can do about it and it is appropriate to, we should. But, if it is a circumstance that we cannot stop…then we need to Accept the Circumstance and its existence, because it is only then that a clear path to a solution can be forged. The more we fight or deny something, the bigger it must become because it is trying to get our attention.

You see…and here is the analogy…when we choose to Resist a circumstance, or fight it, or succumb to fear and/or defeat…we throw up a cloud of distraction around us. We enter a cloud of mist and swirl it around us in an effort to deflect or protect…thinking that if we push it away it will go away, or we won’t have to face it, or it will magically resolve itself. But the only thing we succeed in doing…is fool ourselves.

Cloud 2

Because…as we are standing within that cloud and mist of distraction…outside the cloud, in the cool, crisp, clear air…still sits the circumstance that is waiting to be solved. It does not go anywhere. And we have wasted valuable time, effort, and energy on creating this cloud to hide behind.

Now, sometimes there is benefit to the cloud and good things come from waiting…but for the most part, “the cloud” is merely a diversion tactic we have set up…and eventually, we have to blow the cloud away and step outside it so we can see a clear picture of the circumstance in order to resolve or solve it.

Cloud 6

If we can look at the “true” meaning of Acceptance and Accept the circumstances that we face…this is the first step in changing our lives and having the clarity we need to see our paths for what they truly are. Acceptance is not defeat or acquiescence…it is the strong, smart, brave act of the Spiritual Warrior who knows that, in order to win the battle, one must face the adversary straight on and have faith and trust in the Self and that they will prevail.

Accept your Strength, Wisdom, and Courage…and the rest shall follow.

Thoughts For The Day

TH 1

“Happiness pursued eludes, happiness given returns.” ~ Sir John Templeton
MarDrag’s Thoughts:

We may search and search, spend precious effort, time, and thought into finding Happiness…but the one way we will surely reach it…is to give…and to make someone else Happy. We have all felt that rush of Joy when we see someone smile in Happiness because of something we said or did for them. THAT, is true Happiness. Give of yourself today…and see what comes back to you.

TH 2

“They are called “SELF-worth” and “SELF-esteem” for a reason… we can’t let others decide what we are worth! Empower yourself!” ~ Jaeda DeWalt

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

Indeed, this quote is profound in pointing out the Self in those two words. Two issues we all struggle with at times. And so, we must look to the Self for its Worth and Esteem because no one can give that to us or decide for us how much we feel. It is from how we view ourselves that Worth and Esteem grow. If we leave it to others, it will never be as much as we innately know we deserve. We should measure our Self-Worth and Self-Esteem by our own barometer, and if it is low, look within to raise it. We know best who we are.

TH 3

“I am never alone wherever I am. The air itself supplies me with a century of love. When I breathe in, I am breathing in the laughter, tears, victories, passions, thoughts, memories, existence, joys, moments, and the hues of the sunlight of many tones of skin. I am breathing in the same air that was exhaled by many before me. The air that bore them life. And so, how can I ever say that I am alone?” ~ C. Joybell C.

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

I just found this quote so lovely and had to share it. It speaks of such unity, such Oneness. May we all remember we are not alone, simply because we are here, among the All.

Tuesday Affirmations~Transformation (repost)

It is Tuesday again…already, and time for Tuesday Affirmations! I have my deck “The Gift of Affirmations” by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber here…and am shuffling the cards as I ask for our weekly message. The card that comes to my hand for us today is:

The Gift of Transformation: “I Have The Power To Transform My Life”

Message: “Use this gift when you notice resistance, either in yourself or others, to the idea of being able to change your life. Profound change usually comes in small increments over time. Keep a positive attitude and you will be able to undo years of negative affirmations in record time.”

from The Desk of MarDrag:

Life is full of many different types of events and circumstances. We experience an array of them every day…and handle them in many different ways as well. Some of those events and circumstances are difficult, painful or we do not have a good understanding of them…and so we resist them and resist taking action or dealing with them. When we do this, it stalls the momentum of our lives and jams a cog in the ever turning wheel that our life paths are on.

I think what this affirmation is telling us is that, if we would believe in ourselves, we have the power to transform our lives…to transform that which we resist, if we look at it with a positive eye. With resistance, we are usually looking with a negative eye, wanting to deny or avoid what is affecting us or a problem we do not see an answer for. If we can remember that we have the power to change whatever it is that we resist…there would be no need to avoid it. In those moments of resistance…we forget the gifts, abilities and power that we have to be used in the situation.

If we make our gifts, abilities and power bigger than that which we resist…then we have what we need to transform our lives. If we make that which we resist bigger than our gifts, abilities and power…then it wins over.

Believe in yourself…and that you have an innate power in a positive attitude that can transform anything in your life, and your life, anytime you choose to use it. Make yourself and all your wonderful qualities bigger than anything life can throw at you…and you will Transform!

Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts 1

“The cyclone drives its power from a calm center. So does a person.”  ~ Norman Vincent Peale

from The Desk of MarDrag:

You have heard the phrase “calm in the eye of the storm.” Similar to the quote above. And if we think about it, and look at the picture, we see it to be true. While a storm whirls and twirls, at the very center is the calm power that drives it. If we can adopt that concept to our lives, we can weather anything. So, rather than get caught up in the fury of the storm around us, we seek to be the calm power at the center of it so that we can determine the destination, or at the very least, stay balanced and centered as it rages around us and we wait it out. Some storms cannot be avoided. Stay calm.

Thoughts 2“Don’t be pushed by your problems. Be led by your dreams!  ~ Angel Whispers

from The Desk of MarDrag:

It is a part of life to be driven by our problems. They take our energy, we worry about them, and often they are the things that we focus on through out the day. And like the quote says, our problems push us along in life. But consider that, we will always have some kind of problem at hand to solve, that is part of life, but would we make it the focus of our lives. What if, instead of allowing our problems to push us around like bullies, we put them into perspective…and allowed our passions and dreams to lead us to the life we want to live. Problems get solved…they always do. Live your dreams!

Thoughts 3“Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to allow another person or event to control your emotions.”  ~ Author Unknown

from The Desk of MarDrag:

And so, like the other quote above, we see that WE have the choice whether to allow something to take over our lives…or whether we take our power back from the problem or person and place it where it will do the most good for us…which is working toward peace and calm within. Because from that Inner Peace comes all that we are looking for to manage our lives. Inner Peace is the key that unlocks the ideas, solutions, and love held within us…which leads us to a better life. Let us make Peace the focus.

Tuesday Affirmations ~ Dignity

I was looking through some old writings from over a year ago, and I came across this blog post. I wrote it just after I started the blog and I was not even tagging it or sending it around yet. As a writer, there are times when I reread something and I think, hmmm, that was pretty good. Not often, mind you. A writer is their own worst critic. But this jumped out at me as quite poignant, and so, I decided to post it again so it can be shared with those who now follow as the blog has grown. I hope you enjoy it…and that it speaks to you…as it seems to have spoken to me again. Blessings!

“Sometimes even to live is an act of courage.” ~ Seneca

“Somehow, even in the worst of times, the tiniest fragments of good survive. It is the grip in which one holds those fragments that counts.”  ~ Melina Marchetta

“Dignity is as essential to human life as water, food, and oxygen. The stubborn retention of it, even in the face of extreme hardship, can hold a man’s soul in his body long past the point at which the body should have surrendered it.”  ~ Laura Hillenbrand

**** “Extraordinary people survive under the most terrible circumstances and they become more extraordinary because of it.”  ~ Robertson Davies

SL 1from the Desk of MarDrag:

In the post “The Possibility of a Moment”, there is a quote that reads…”life is a series of moments strung together”…and so it is. Sometimes, the string of moments are a beautiful thread that lights up our tapestries and weaves a wonderful picture in our lives, with sweeping goodly emotions and breathtaking panoramas. But, sometimes those moments can be made up of frayed threads, broken strings and colors all awash with frightening darkness and anguish.  Sometimes things happen in life that are unexpected, unexplained and uncontrollable, and we despair about what to do or how to do it, or make it change or fix it, or how to make it better or right itself.

SL 2It is easy to love ourselves through the good moments, to be proud of ourselves and to manage life as that part of the tapestry weaves itself. But when the weave goes awry, what then do we do to our tapestries?

SL 3In the quote above, Laura Hillenbrand says, “Dignity is as essential to human life as water, food, and oxygen.” And that, I believe, is what makes the difference. If we can maneuver through the damaged threads of our tapestry with dignity, then we can survive the moments that would otherwise ruin the bind.  It is the poise and character with which we face those broken threads that give them the substance to be gathered up again and rewoven into the fabric of our pictures. And it is those mended threads that give our tapestries the quality, personality, and spirit that make it our own story, our own unique existence. It is these faulted moments that make up the landscape of our lives and make them the distinctive and irreplaceable embroidery that we call our self…and without them…and the dignity with which we hold our heads high in the face of them…that sets us apart from each other.

SL 4Surviving life, or the break in our threads, does not come easy. But somehow, through our acts of courage to move on, we find that we are stronger than we thought ourselves to be because, yes, another day has come and gone, and we survived it. And then time passes into something else.

So, take up your needles, thread your threads, and weave those landscapes in the most amazing ways you can imagine…broken and frayed threads and all…and hang your tapestries proudly for all the world to see. Some will judge it, some will criticize it, and some will even dislike it…but that does not matter.  Because it is those that love it (including ourselves) that really count and they will always be there to help us stitch and mend the threads we have torn, and they will love us even more for having tried. As we should too, for ourselves and others.

SL 5Now stand back, and look at the tapestry as a whole picture, and see that one thread does not define the picture of itself…it takes many threads of different colors, to make the self a whole. And in that, lies the beauty. And also in that, lies the soul that survived through all the stitching.  That, in and of itself, is a miracle. And so are You!
