Let It Go & Trust – Yikes!

Let Go2.jpg

This is the message I got this morning, loud and clear. Every morning I do my cleansing and grounding ritual in the shower. As the restorative hot water hits my skin and runs in healing rivulets down my body, awakening my senses, I visualize all the negative energy, pain, and “stuff” I hold onto getting washed away with the water, down, down the drain, releasing it to Mother Earth…who transforms it into energy to be used for a better purpose…and then fill myself with light and love and grounding energy. It helps so much to start the day cleansed, grounded, and clear.

I have some stuff going on, I recently wrote about my “Acceptance” of it and the relief to feel that release of not holding on to an outcome anymore. It is not easy…this Letting Go. But the harder part comes next…to Trust that it will all work out. Yikes! Trust? I thought I just had to Let Go! Wink!

But, behind the letting go does come the need to Trust that it will either work itself out as it is supposed to be OR that I will know what to do when I need to do it to change the thing. So this was the message this morning…

“Let it all go…and let it work in all its perfectness.”

Yikes! But I get it.

There are those times when all the things we do, all the worry we endure, all the suffering we inflict on ourselves about a situation…will change nothing…and we waste all that energy. What if we decided to have fun while waiting for a situation to work out? Who says we have to “suffer through it?” If it is going to work out anyway…??

Let Go3

Of course, there are those times we need to take circumstances and mold and form them, putting in great effort for great success. But…there are times like these…when Letting Go, Waiting, and Trusting…is the only thing to do. And in that case…we have the power to decide what state we wait in and what will benefit our well-being more? Letting Go and Trusting? Or hanging on for dear life with bloodied hands and heart.

So I take a deeeeep breath…Let It Go…and Trust in the process and that my Higher Self and Powers will see me through until resolution comes. Ok now…Breathe…

Thoughts For The Day

TH 1

“You are your own worst enemy. If you can learn to stop expecting impossible perfection, in yourself and others, you may find the happiness that has always eluded you.” ~ Lisa Kleypas

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

We are hard on ourselves. And so, hard on others too, when we expect Perfection. If we can accept that Perfection is an illusion constructed to hide imperfections, then perhaps we can allow the winds of change to blow away that illusion to reveal that…no one and nothing is ever Perfect. AND YET…we are all Perfect…just as we are. Because all that we have gone through has led us here to this moment, and at this moment, we have choices about where we go next and how we react to those choices. If we stop trying to Be Perfect…we will find Perfection in our Imperfectness. Be that Perfect Imperfect You.

TH 2

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” ~ Leo Buscaglia

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

We touch each other’s lives, every day, in ways that we are often unaware of. A smile here, a touch there…can help change a person’s day in remarkable and wonderful ways. There is such Power in Kindness. Be aware of that today…and be Kind. You never know how much that may touch someone and change their life. And…begin that Kindness…with yourself!

TH 3

“Today expect something good to happen to you no matter what occurred yesterday. Realize the past no longer holds you captive. It can only continue to hurt you if you hold on to it. Let the past go. A simply abundant world awaits.” ~ Sarah Ban Breathnach

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

Today is a new day…full of Possibility and Opportunity. It matters not what happened yesterday…let it go. For there are a plethora of chances for something else wonderful to happen today. Start the day believing something Magical is about to happen…and it will.

Tuesday Affirmations ~ Making Room

It is time for Tuesday Affirmations again. As I spin through my deck “The Gift of Affirmations” by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber, the card that presents itself for today is:

MR 2

Gift of The New:   “I Let Go Of Things That Are No Longer Useful”

Message: “Use this gift when you are resisting letting go of outmoded ways of thinking and acting, and people who are taking advantage of your time, energy, and other resources. If you want new people, places, things, situations, and ideas to come to you, you must make room for them in your life. Then enjoy your new freedom and know that exciting things await you.”

MR 1

from The Desk of MarDrag:

This is a profound affirmation, and builds a bit on yesterday’s post about Messages. For if we take that overview of our lives…soaring above like the Hawk to clear our vision and notice our surroundings and get a comprehensive look at all that is happening in our lives…then we are sure to find some things that need to be cleared away, let go of, and that no longer serve us. Sometimes we are loathe to let them go because they have done something for us in the past. But, if they are no longer useful to us…or are, in fact, holding us back…then we need to let them go so that we can make room for the new and exciting things that are waiting to have the space to come through.

MR 3

Sometimes we have to change our perspective to get the to the truth. That often means letting go of ways of thinking, or beliefs, that have been with us for a long time. We think they should continue to work for us…but as we grow and change, so do our thoughts and beliefs…and that is a good thing. Looking back…how many times have we said, “I never thought I would do that or think that, but now look how I have changed and grown and how much better my life is now.” It is only the fear of change or letting go that stops us. Because once we do it…and we get a whiff of how great things to come can be…then we are on our way and not looking back.

MR 4

So, as you soar like the Hawk, taking that focused view of your life, notice what is no longer working for you, and let it go…knowing unequivocally that something new and wonderful will be coming to take its place…all because you were brave and smart enough to open the space.

MR 5

Monday Message ~ The Gateway

Good Monday Morning! We are faced with the start of another week…and as the pattern has been set…I look for our message of wisdom to carry us into the week. Today, the Runes called me loud and clear…so I dipped my hand into the bag of stones and asked for the message for my readers and me today. I pulled the stone and gathered “The Book of Runes” by Ralph Blum close…and here is what they offered:

Thur 1

Thurisaz: “Gateway, Place of Non-Action”

Message (paraphrased): “With a gateway for its symbol, this Rune indicates that there is work to be done both inside and outside yourself. The gateway is the frontier between Heaven and the mundane. Arriving here is recognition of your readiness to contact the numinous, the Divine, to illuminate your experience so that its meaning shines through its form.

Thurisaz is a Rune of non-action. Thus, the gateway is not to be approached and passed through without contemplation. Here you are being confronted with a true reflection of what is hidden in yourself, what must be exposed and examined before successful action can be undertaken. This Rune strengthens your ability to wait. Now is not the time to make decisions. Deep transformational forces are at work.

Visualize yourself standing before a gateway on a hilltop. Your entire life lies out behind you and below. Before you step through, pause and review the past; the learning and the joys, the victories and the sorrows – everything it took to bring you here. Observe it all, bless it all, and release it all. For in letting go of the past, you reclaim your Power.

Step through the gateway now.”

Thur 2

from The Desk of MarDrag:

This is such a powerful message for today. Thurisaz is letting us know we have come to a pivotal time on our journey. We have reached a gateway. We have walked many difficult and joyous miles, and they have led us to this moment. The moment of Illumination…where we bring together the mundane of our physical life with the Light and glory of the Divine. It sends chills through me.

For it is when the Divine Light is shed on our everyday, mundane existence…that we discover it is not mundane at all…but that every step, every pain, every pleasure has played an integral part in making us who we are at this very moment. And that is, A Spiritual Warrior about to walk through a brilliantly lit gateway into the next phase of our lives.

Thur 5

And, in order to take that step wisely and cleanly…we must take a moment, become the Observer, and look at all of that which we have passed through…and Let It Go. The Light of the Gateway illuminates our reflection…that hidden part of ourself that we must now face and examine, and ask the tough questions of where we truly want that Self to go. What is it that we truly want of our life. What and who are we truly meant to be…what is our Destiny, our True Purpose for this life…because it is not to be had in the mundane. This is why we must illuminate our path with the Light of the Divine at this moment. To see clearly what our True Life is revealing to us. And…when we see this…we must be absolutely honest with ourselves about what we see…because it will lead us to our greatest happiness and deepest pleasure.

Thur 3

Thurisaz also tells us that deep transformational forces are also at work around us. I believe this wholeheartedly. And, as Thursaz says, at these times, we must allow those forces to do their work as we take a moment to wait on their efforts. At this moment…our work is to stand at that hilltop and take a view of our lives…and let go completely and utterly all the tethers to the past, let them go with Love and Blessings…because we are about to move into a whole new time, a new phase, a new life…and we do not want to drag anything from the past that may hinder our progress or darken our doorway.

Use the visual the Rune speaks of, and stand at that gateway. Knowing that, all the action we have taken has brought us here…and that the most important action to take at this moment is not to act…but to reflect, go deep within, and illuminate our True Self. That True Self will, without a doubt, know exactly what direction to guide us in…and all we must do is Listen, and follow that voice through the gateway.

About Letting Go

Letting Go 6

It can be very difficult to let things go when we have strong emotions that are tied to whatever it is we are holding on to. Whether it is a past mistake, something someone did to us, a fault of ours, thoughts we feel we should not have, anger, frustration, something we want to manifest…any manner of things that take up space in our minds and hearts and make us hurt, regret, get angry, worry to the point of distraction or even go into depression.

Letting Go 2

Consider that by holding on to whatever “it” is, we are keeping “it” alive, keeping it in the forefront of our minds, hearts and souls…not giving ourselves a chance to work it out, get over it, or let it go. We keep running the tape about it over and over and over and over again in our minds. But does it go anywhere? Does it help to keep running the tape? Does it change anything about what is on the tape? Does it solve the problem?

Letting Go 9

Think of it this way…You are holding an object in your hand, you curl your fingers around it, feel it press against the palm of your hand. As you hold it tighter, you feel its impression deeper and deeper against your palm, your fingers are becoming stiff with the force of holding this object, your finger nails now digging into your skin. You are holding it so tight your knuckles are turning white and you begin to feel the muscles in your forearm tensing with the struggle. Your elbow cracks with the force as it moves up your arm, into the upper portion and clear up to your shoulder and into your neck, up through your head. Your muscles are tensing and flexing so hard now your arm begins to vibrate. You are holding this object so hard that your entire arm, shoulder and then your whole body reacts to the power of it, struggling with the might that is your own strength. Sense the enormous amount of energy it takes to hold on to this object, to keep it in your hand and not let it fall. It takes all of your concentration, will, strength and power to hold it there, keep it there. You are literally holding your breath with the sheer effort of it all. You are aware of how hard it is to hold onto this thing, how much of your valuable energy it uses up. And you begin to feel like you can’t take it anymore.

Letting Go 7

The lesson here is…It takes far more energy and effort and causes far more pain to hold on, then it does to Let Go.

Letting Go 10

We are the very hand that causes the stress and strain that we feel from holding on so tight and being unable to let go. The hand, arm, shoulder and head signify the heart, mind, soul and body and the damage we do to them.

Letting Go

It takes great courage to Let Go of something we want to fix, change, create, or manifest. When we Hold On…we are taking up valuable space that, if cleared, is ready to receive the abundance the universe has to offer us…the abundance of what is right and good for us.

Imagine opening that hand (above)…uncurl those fingers and allow what you have been holding on to, to go free. Just as we have our own unique place in this universe…so do the things, people, and emotions and feelings in our life that we hold on to. Letting them go allows them to get to the space or place they belong. If they are meant for us, they will stay. If they are not, they will fly free, and we will have the magical opportunity to refill that space with something that is better for us.

Imagine the relief of not having to struggle to hold on…and letting the flow back into our lives. Deep breath now! It is a good thing!

Tuesday Affirmations ~ Challenges

We are well into another week…but it is a holiday week, so a short one for many people. I hope it is a good week for all! And here we are, ready for another post on “Tuesday Affirmations”. Today, the card I pulled from my deck “The Gifts of Affirmations” by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber is:

The Gift of Courage ~ “I Invent Creative Solutions To The Challenges In My Life”

Message: “Use this gift when you are confronted with a situation that seems impossible to deal with. Sometimes it is better to study a problem until you understand it well and then put it out of your mind for a while. Many scientists and mathematicians have reported that their inventions and creative solutions came to them in a dream or in the reverie of a daydream.”

Challenges 1

from the Desk of MarDrag:

Courage is a powerful gift, but sometimes a difficult one to cultivate. It takes courage to face down problems and obstacles in life, and to find solutions to situations we must take on that are uncomfortable or painful. And with our instincts usually pushing us to find a solution quickly, sometimes we can act hastily, not thinking things through, and make the wrong choice or take the wrong direction altogether. Sometimes, we do not have the courage to stay our hand, pause, and make the decision in our own time and in the best way possible. Life is in a hurry these days, but sometimes we ourselves should not be.

I like the affirmation card for its message to slow down and study the problems of our lives. Only in doing that will we have a good understanding of all the implications and possible solutions available. I know…we say life is moving quickly and we need to keep up. But…are we moving at the pace of life…or should our life be moving at our pace? After all, it is our life and we are in control of it, or should be. We should not be letting life have control of us.

I believe that it is true that, when faced with a problem, if we spend all our time obsessing over it and wracking our brains for a solution, we find it difficult to find one because all our energy and mind functions are focused on the problem itself. We run it over and over, on a loop, and then add anxiety, fear, dread, anger, and frustration on top of it…and at that point, we have no more space in our minds, hearts or emotions to welcome in the answer. The space is full…of things that will not help us.

So, as the affirmation says…what if we take a productive turn in our problem solving technique? Spend the energy on understanding and clarifying the problem. Write it down if necessary. Make a pro and con list, and add a list of possible solutions, even if they sound unlikely. Writing it down helps to get all those thoughts out of our head and put down in the physical. Because the next step, is to let it go and forget about it for a while. This helps in two ways…first, to let our mind have a break and clear out the energy, and second, to open the space and allow the correct solution to come forward. Or to come to us in a dream or half-sleep state…which is actually a great time as the sub-conscious has the time to speak at those moments while the conscious mind drowses.

Letting Go 4

I know some of you can think of a time when you have said, “the answer just came to me”. And, after all your worry, it seemed effortless. Well, the more you work at retraining your problem solving habits, the easier it gets, and the less effort you will spend on them.

Letting go of something important can be hard. But this method really does work. I can say that from experience. I used to be the best top notch worrier of all time. But all that worry got me nowhere but wishing for a padded cell. LOL! When I stopped using all my energy up with worry, and started actively focusing it toward constructive thought, and then letting go, things changed and difficulties seemed not so overwhelming anymore. I realized I could handle them and there was always an answer, even when I could not see it right away.

There is a saying that, “there is no problem that does not have a solution, otherwise it is not a problem”.

Challenges 2

If we remember that for every problem there is truly a solution, and understand and let go enough to allow that solution to present itself, then we are truly the creative problem solving beings we are meant to be and we have conquered the Challenge.

Tuesday Affirmation ~ Illumination & The Past

I seem to be saying this a great deal lately…but a week has passed again…already. Perhaps it is just me, but time seems to be marching rapidly these days. So…we find ourselves here for “Affirmation Tuesday” and the card that skittered out of the deck of “The Gift of Affirmations” by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber for us today is:

Illumination 3

The Gift of Illumination: “I Learn Valuable Lessons From Studying The Past”

Message: “Use this gift when you are dissatisfied with your life or feel tormented by how different you believe things could or should have been. The present moment is your only point of power. Taking action now in harmony with what you know you have to do while using the past to guide your actions is the best way to change your future”.

from The Desk of MarDrag:

Could have…should have…would have. These are familiar quotes, are they not? We all…at some time in our lives…have used these. I know I have, and for a while in my past, it was difficult to move beyond them. In my early adult years, I had a great deal of angst about my childhood and circumstances that were beyond my control. I recall thinking…”If this was just this way, or that way…everything would be perfect”. In our formative years, we make decisions about…and have pictures in our mind about…how our lives will look when we “grow up”. Some of those dreams come true and the pictures match up. But then, there are those pictures that do not make it into the tapestry…and that can result in feelings of failure, dissatisfaction, frustration…and then blame.

But, a defining moment came for me when I “woke up” one day and realized that all the things I was lamenting from my past…had passedand they could only continue to affect me if I allowed them to. I had “grown up” and it was my choice what I did with my life, what I created, what I allowed into my psyche, my heart, my soul. I realized that…while I did need to process the past and any lingering emotions that held me blocked from my future…my past was really no longer holding me back…I was.

You see, the tighter we hold onto something, the bigger and stronger it grows because we are feeding our energy into it…and it is taking that energy. If we are holding on, then there is a reason and we need to uncover that reason and sort it out. And then…we need to Let Go of it. It is no longer part of our present life, or our future, and should be regaled to the past…where it belongs.

As the affirmation says…we should use the past as a guideline for what we want our life to look like in the present and the future…but it does not belong in a front row seat of our “life play”. The past can be stepping stones…or a hedge running along the sides of the pavement we take our life steps on…to steer us, to reflect for us, or to nudge us…but, if we allow it to tangle in our steps…then it can trip us.

I love the affirmations’ quote above; “the present moment is your only point of power”. I believe in this completely. Dragging the past along with us…or projecting too far into the future…will only confuse the decisions and choices we have to make today. Using the past and the future as a kind of mirror…for reflections sake…will aid us…but the real Power for us comes in being completely aware of what is happening in this moment, what we a re feeling, what we are seeing, then looking even deeper…and Illuminating the truth of who we are and where we are…at this moment.

Illumination 4

Harmony. Since the past, present and future of ourselves is wrapped together inside us…resting on the Power of this moment…then it is best to strive that they all reside in Harmony within us. And those battles with the self will be over.

The Life We Would Live

“I’m not in search of sanctity, sacredness, purity; these things are found after this life, not in this life; but in this life I search to be completely human: to feel, to give, to take, to laugh, to get lost, to be found, to dance, to love and to lust, to be so human.”   ~ C. JoyBell C.

“Choose your battles wisely. After all, life isn’t measured by how many times you stood up to fight. It’s not winning battles that makes you happy, but it’s how many times you turned away and chose to look into a better direction. Life is too short to spend it on warring. Fight only the most, most, most important ones, let the rest go.”   ~ C. JoyBell C.

“There isn’t any such thing as an ordinary life.”  L.M. Montgomery

“Be comforted in the fact that the ache in your heart and the confusion in your soul means that you are still alive, still human, and still open to the beauty of the world.”  ~ P. Harding

“Life has its own forces which you can only discover by living.”  ~ Soren Kierkegaard

“All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.”  ~ Havelock Ellis

“One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today.”  ~ Dale Carnegie

“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.”  ~ Khahil Gibran

“Happiness can not be traveled to, owned, earned, worn, or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.”  ~ Denis Waitley

from The Desk of MarDrag:

There was this quote on Sunday’s inspiration blog that caught my attention: “We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” ~ Joseph Campbell. It culled my notice because I had been speaking with a few of my clients this past week about this very subject. And so, it has inspired the theme for the posts this coming week.

It is such a fine line to walk, when considering where to lay the threads that are woven into the tapestries of our lives. Which direction do we wish them to be sewn into? And do we have a say in it, should we draw out the pattern….or do we let destiny and the Higher Powers direct the weaving of those threads on some invisible pattern we know precious little about yet. Do we take action, or do we let life come to us? Thoughtful questions.

And those questions bring to mind the line from “The Serenity Prayer”…”God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

You see, I believe there is a time to take control, take action, and make things happen. IF it is with the things we have the courage to change, and they are changeable. But I also believe that there are some things in our lives that cannot be changed, no matter how hard we wish they could or would or how hard we work to make it happen. Sometimes they are not ready. If it is not changing, there is a reason for that, and we must accept it and look to another direction or opportunity. The wisdom is in knowing the difference…and not fighting the truth of it.

We all have pictures in our minds and desires in our hearts of what we want our lives to be, to look like. But, what we desire is not always what is best for us…or what is true to our souls. Our true life. So we must be willing to let go of those visions, and ask the better question…”what is right to happen for me”? It is a tough one, because we think we know best for ourselves, and mostly we do, but as another quote above says…”Life has its own forces”…and we cannot deny those forces. For if we do, they will end up working against us. Or it will appear that way. What’s more, many times what we have planned for ourselves is not near as great as what the Higher Powers have planned for us and what comes to us is far more amazing than we could have imagined.

As Havelock Ellis says…”the art of living is a fine mingling of letting go and holding on”. Look at what you are holding on to. If it is working and moving you forward, hold on and take action. If it is stalling, not working or changing, and not advancing your life to a better place, then perhaps it is time to let go of it and look for what is right for you and your life. There are so many opportunities and we have so many gifts within us to use…do not limit your life!

In order to do this, we must…Surrender. Which is not what you might think. So this will be the topic of the next post for the theme this week of…The Life We Would Live.
