“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and freedom.”  ~ Viktor Frankl

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

Something happens to us…then there is a heartbeat…and then we respond. Within that heartbeat, that minute space, there is a vast reservoir of freedom and power because, in that instant, lives our gift of choice. We pass over that moment in a rush to respond…but if we can strengthen our awareness to expand our focus of this moment, it opens up a great potential for growth. As the quote says, there is freedom in knowing we have that choice of how to respond…and that can change everything. Because it is in how we respond that sets the tone of how what happens to us plays out. And that gives us so much more command over our lives, rightly so. It also gives us more responsibility for our lives…but what is responsibility…but the ability to respond.

“We tend to be held back from our goals by the simplicity of our comfort zones…but just how comfortable are we? Wouldn’t we be more content living in our dreams?”  ~ Michelle C. Ustaszeski

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

“The simplicity of our comfort zones”…This really caught my attention. Because I never thought of comfort zones as simplistic…but it makes sense. It may be “simpler” to stay in our comfort zones than it is to take the risk to break out of them. But as the quote says, how comfortable are we really within those zones? We create them because we are uncomfortable with something in our lives, but we are either afraid or unmotivated to make a change. So really, they do not offer us as much comfort as we would think. The question is ~ comfort vs. content. Should we settle for a comfort zone or aspire to be content by living in and following our dreams?

“Understand that the right to choose your own path is a sacred privilege. Use it. Dwell in possibility.”  ~ Oprah Winfrey

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

We are fortunate in that we do have the ability and the right to choose our own path. We might think that circumstances force our path, and indeed, they do influence our progress. But…we are always at choice about what path we decide to follow. If we can remember that…even when it does not appear so…there are unlimited possibilities at our fingertips, then we will see that those paths are fluid and we can choose how and where those paths flow. Acknowledge this privilege, and honor your path by knowing it is a sacred gift and following its truth.

Weekend Inspiration ~ Flit of Fantasy

F 20

As children, we live in fantastic worlds of our imagination. Everything real has a film of fantasy and wonder laid over it, so that everything we experience is new, fresh, and magical. As we grow up, we are told and taught not to live in those fantasy worlds and to adapt to the reality of life, and the harshness of it. As adults, we forget to play in our imaginations and to take a break from that harsh real world. But…we should not forget that there are other worlds, other places to visit, other “realities” to enjoy. And…it is by way of these imaginations that great and healing things come to manifest in this real world.

So, do not forget to carve out a time for Fantasy…to daydream…to inhabit those peripheral worlds that are full of Magic and Wonder…to create fantastic dreams and make believe. For, it is in those places that we find the strength to carry on, rejuvenate, and where our tortured souls break free. And, it is also in those places…if we bring that energy back to the real world…will nurture and heal us and this damaged place we live.

Today…let it be ok to spend it in your Fantasy world. Spend it in the joy of creating and imagining…and give yourself that time to wander down the pathways of another land. Be refreshed…and giggle! Blessings!

Weekend Inspiration ~ Imagination

I 3

When I wrote the previous post about Imagination…I realized I have written very little about it on this blog, and as I pondered on the subject, I realized just how important and necessary our Imaginations are…and how the current state of the world conditions us to forget about our Imagination and to be steeped in the harshness of reality. It occurred to me that reality becomes harsh…because we forget to use our Imagination to create that reality.

When we are children, we have no filter on our Imagination, and we see the world through that magical lens. As we grow up and face “life”, that lens gets mucked up with grime and we lose that spontaneity that keeps the Imagination alive. Or, we are told to be “realistic” about our lives and future and focus on accomplishments, money, success, and clamoring up “the ladder”. And we forget that it is within the Imagination that all of those things are born. We are taught that it is childish or unproductive to spend time in the Imagination, or daydreaming, but this is where we find our True Self…and conjure the ideas that become those successes. The Imagination sprinkles our minds with fantastic new thoughts, ideas, and positive energy and inspiration. It is where great deeds and inventions are born. And…it is where we can dream up the ideas that will help change the state our world is in right now.

So, I encourage everyone to use their Imagination. Today…in everything you do…use your Imagination. Think up great adventures while washing the dishes, ponder that next great invention, let your Imagination wander and wind through travels to places yet untouched…and let it change your life…and the world. Here are some quotes to get you started! Blessings!

Thoughts For The Day

“Live out of your imagination, not your history.” ~ Stephen Covey

“A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral.” ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

“Logic will get you from A to Z; imagination will get you everywhere.” ~ Albert Einstein

Imagination 2

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

Always when looking for quotes for these Thoughts For The Day posts, certain ones stand out to me, and I feel compelled to write about them. As I was searching for today’s quotes, I kept running across ones about Imagination. So…I got the message to make this post all about…Imagination.

????????

The formal definition of Imagination is:

– the ability to imagine things that are not real : the ability to form a picture in your mind of something that you have  not seen or experienced
– the ability to think of new things
– the act or power of forming a mental image of something not present to the senses or never before wholly perceived in reality

Imagination 1

This is the stuff of where dreams manifested comes from. As the quote by Einstein says…logic will get us from one point to another…but it is the Imagination that creates the points to begin with. It is what makes real that which is not a reality yet.

Imagination 4

Every idea, every success, every manifestation…begins with a thought…a thought that is born of the Imagination. Someone, somewhere…had to think it up before it could be done.

Today…let your Imagination free…and see what you can dream up! Walk through that door…

TH 1

“Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do.” ~ Pope John XXIII

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

What we focus on grows. If we can remember that daily, we can guide our thoughts from what we fear or lack and focus them on our hopes and dreams and the potential that we have…every day…to make a new start or to finish a dream long desired. Do not give up! If we have failed at something, it just means it was not the right thing and the space needs to be cleared so we can begin again, on another dream, and make that happen. The potential to succeed is always there. And if we make that our intent, then the rest will fall away, and we can fulfill those hopes and dreams we so resolutely desire. Let us focus on the possibilities of what can still happen rather than on what has not happened.

TH 2

“Intuition is a sense of knowing how to act spontaneously, without needing to know why.” ~ Sylvia Clare

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

Why? It is a question so frequently asked. Sometimes we receive and answer…and sometimes we are called to move forward without answers or knowledge about why, how, when, or where. It is at these times that we are acting on Intuition and Instinct. Intuition does not need a reason to act…it already knows the reason and the answer. Listen to that Intuitive voice and follow its message. We will likely find the answer to Why on the road to Where.

TH3

“Travelers, there is no path, paths are made by walking.” ~ Antonio Machado

MarDrag’s Thoughts:

This quote caught my attention and made me stop and think. It begs the age old question…”Which came first, the path or the traveler?” There are many who came before us that blazed trails for us to follow, and many to come after us who will walk in our steps, if we are to leave an imprint. But the truth is…if we are to forge our own True Path and live our True Life, then we must create a new path, a path that our own unique and individual steps fit to, for no one can shape a path for us. We can learn from others, watch their steps and emulate them, or study many different paths…but when the time comes, we must walk in our own power and strength and clear the debris around us, shine our Light, and illuminate the path before us to show us the way. There is no other way to find our True Path. So, we must start walking.

Life’s A Purpose ~ Repost

Some conversations this week asked the question of Life’s Purpose…what it is and how we find it. For those people, and anyone else asking that question, I am reposting this blog in hope it sheds some light or understanding.  Blessings to You All!

“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has opened for us.” ~Helen Keller

“Every choice before you represents the universe inviting you to remember who you are and what you want.” ~Alan Cohen

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

“The path to our destination is not always a straight one. We go down the wrong road, we get lost, we turn back. Maybe it doesn’t matter which road we embark on. Maybe what matters is that we embark.” ~Barbara Hall

“You will recognize your own path when you come upon it, because you will suddenly have all the energy and imagination you will ever need.” ~Jerry Gillies

“The end is not the reward; the path you take, the emotions that course through you as you grasp life – that is the reward.” ~Jamie Magee

P 1

from the Desk of MarDrag:

What is Life’s Purpose? That is such a big question for all of us, one that we spend our entire lives pondering. We have such questions and considerations. Is it something we are? Is it something we do? Is it something we find one day and live happily ever after? Is it something we never find and search for forever? Is it something “out there” or something “within”? This is a subject that masters, philosophers, geniuses and brilliant minds have discussed and debated for millenniums. And we mere folk have struggled to understand it too, in our own ways.

I, too, have contemplated this question for most of my life. I used to think that, if I could just find my life’s purpose, the reason I am here on this earth, then I would finally be happy, content. Meanwhile, as I was searching and contemplating….I lived a lot of life. I survived my childhood (LOL), I grew into an adult, chose my career, had a family, and watched them grow. I had some great successes, as well as some great failures. I made mistakes, and learned great lessons from them. I took care of others. I walked a spiritual path, studied and learned a great deal. Had some deep and earth shattering moments of revelation.

And still I asked….what is my purpose?

Not too long ago, I realized something that changed my perception. I realized that my life’s purpose….was to live my life. Exactly how I was living it, am living it, and will live it, until I am here no longer.

Every experience I had or will have, every movement, every choice or decision, every action or task, every thought and emotion ….is the purpose of my life. Everything I have done, thought or felt has led me to this moment…..and will continue to lead me where I am meant to go. It all counts, even when we think it is meaningless, difficult or painful. This doesn’t mean we do not strive for a good/better life, or to make a contribution, or do something meaningful with our lives. It means that….just in the act of striving…is our purpose. There is significance in everything we do. One day, our purpose may be just to get through a difficult day. Another day it may be to smile at someone, or perform a random act of kindness and make their day a better one. Another may be to create the next life changing invention. Or to write a best seller. Or do something to change the world. Or it could just be to be the best you at what you do that day, be it work, caretaking or even doing nothing at all. But to do it with all your might.

P 3

The thing is….each day we wake, we get to say, I have purpose today. We get to give our lives purpose, rather than ask what is that purpose. Purpose is not the destination, but the journey, and all we experience, feel and share while traveling. From this, we gather all the imagination and energy we need to walk our walk. Our threads that weave the larger picture of the tapestry of this universe are full of purpose in that, without our thread, weaving in exactly the way it winds through the tapestry, makes the picture it’s perfect self. It would not look the way it does, it would not be the gorgeous tapestry that it is….if not for our own threads, running through it, in their own way….on purpose.

Tuesday Affirmations~Transformation (repost)

It is Tuesday again…already, and time for Tuesday Affirmations! I have my deck “The Gift of Affirmations” by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber here…and am shuffling the cards as I ask for our weekly message. The card that comes to my hand for us today is:

POW 3

The Gift of Transformation: “I Have The Power To Transform My Life”

Message: “Use this gift when you notice resistance, either in yourself or others, to the idea of being able to change your life. Profound change usually comes in small increments over time. Keep a positive attitude and you will be able to undo years of negative affirmations in record time.”

from The Desk of MarDrag:

Life is full of many different types of events and circumstances. We experience an array of them every day…and handle them in many different ways as well. Some of those events and circumstances are difficult, painful or we do not have a good understanding of them…and so we resist them and resist taking action or dealing with them. When we do this, it stalls the momentum of our lives and jams a cog in the ever turning wheel that our life paths are on.

I think what this affirmation is telling us is that, if we would believe in ourselves, we have the power to transform our lives…to transform that which we resist, if we look at it with a positive eye. With resistance, we are usually looking with a negative eye, wanting to deny or avoid what is affecting us or a problem we do not see an answer for. If we can remember that we have the power to change whatever it is that we resist…there would be no need to avoid it. In those moments of resistance…we forget the gifts, abilities and power that we have to be used in the situation.

POW 1

If we make our gifts, abilities and power bigger than that which we resist…then we have what we need to transform our lives. If we make that which we resist bigger than our gifts, abilities and power…then it wins over.

Believe in yourself…and that you have an innate power in a positive attitude that can transform anything in your life, and your life, anytime you choose to use it. Make yourself and all your wonderful qualities bigger than anything life can throw at you…and you will Transform!

Thoughts For The Day

THU 1

“When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”  ~ Audre Lorde

from The Desk of MarDrag:

Day to day, we channel our Strength to accomplish what we need to accomplish…with family, work, obligations, responsibilities…but how much of that Strength do we channel into our own Life Vision. Out of necessity…and often Fear, we gauge it is less important to lend what Strength we have left to our Vision. Consider that, channeling Strength to our Purpose, our own Vision, makes it grow in Strength, and the more we give it, the more we vanquish the Fear that distracts us from following the Vision. Dare to be Powerful enough to say…I shall channel some Strength to my Vision daily, and watch it blossom and come to life. As, too, our Power will blossom from this use.

THU 2

“It is at the perilous edge of risk itself that the energy comes to transform your life.”  ~ Author Unknown

from The Desk of MarDrag:

Just as we are teetering on the edge of life, and we think we will fall or not make it to the other side…our instincts take over and feed us with energy, purpose, and answers when we thought we would not get them. It is at this moment, the moment of greatest Risk, that the most amazing things happen, and we see what we are really made of. We should not fear Risk…but use it to propel us forward.

THU 3

“Dreams aren’t those you have when you sleep. Dreams are those you have that don’t let you sleep until they are fulfilled.”  ~ Nishan Panwar

from The Desk of MarDrag:

We should take that thing that we daydream about when we are somewhere we do not want to be…and go make it happen. That Dream we give ourselves a few minutes to indulge in just before we fall asleep…go make it happen. That Dream that we close our waking eyes to so we can see it behind our lids…that gets us through a difficult day. Go make THAT happen. They will not leave us until we fulfill them…because Dreams are loyal…and they know where to take us. Let us make our Dreams come true…and if everyone is following their Bliss, their Dream, then the world will, indeed, be a happier place.

Blessings!
