Weekend Inspiration ~ Patience

P 10

Patience…can be one of the most difficult aspects of life to manage. Especially in this day and age of instant gratification. There are too many ways to “get things now”. But, in the true energy grid of life, where growth and movement happen by nature’s way, the natural way…sometimes we have to be Patient for the river to flow, for things to work out, or for solutions and resolutions to manifest. Consider that…everything has a path. We do, but so do the events and circumstances we face. They have a path to follow as well…to get to completion. This is to our benefit, for if some things move too fast or before their time, then we may miss out on something wonderful that could have occurred.  I have had moments of sheer panic wanting, needing something to happen…thinking I could not go another minute but for it to manifest…and then another minute came…and I had to move on…and I did, and survived that moment. I replaced the panic with Patience. And with it came Calm and Peace, as I realized all would work out as it was meant to.

So…Practice Patience today. You don’t have to master it, just practice. it. If there is something you are waiting for, apply Patience to the emotions you are feeling. Take a deep breath and trust your Path…and the path of what it is that waits. You, and your circumstances, will find the way. All in good time. Blessings!

Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts Born

“You were born with potential. You were born with goodness and trust. You were born with ideals and dreams. You were born with greatness. You were born with wings. You are not meant for crawling, so don’t.You have wings.Learn to use them and fly.”  ~ Rumi

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

When we come into this world, we are a clean palette, looking at the world with innocent eyes, and taking at face value what we see and experience every day. And, every single day is a learning experience, another opportunity to learn to talk, walk, play, and figure out which shape fits into which hole on the toy thingy. It is unfortunate that as we grow up, we are ever faced with the negative aspects of life, and, by the time we are adults, we have completely forgotten the innocence, the belief in goodness, the trust, and the wide-eyed wonder we were born with. Seek to re-discover those lost gifts, if even just a little bit. Dare to remember the wings you were born with and the belief that you could fly.

Thoughts Humor

“Through humor you can soften some of the blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you survive it.”  ~ Bill Cosby

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

A few months after I started this blog, I realized I was writing about a great many deep thoughts and issues…and when I “made a joke” people laughed and found relief. So, I started the now regular Wednesday “Hump Day Humor” post…to give everyone a mid-week break. I get comments from people who share how much they needed that chuckle. I firmly believe that comic relief feeds the soul, and gives it a needed respite. As Bill Cosby says, humor softens the blows life hurls at us, and relieves some of that stress they cause. Even if circumstances in your life are hard and worrisome…find a way to find some laughter in your day and give yourself that gift. It is amazing how far a funny moment can take you!

Thoughts Wink

“A gentle word, a kind look, a good-natured smile can work wonders and accomplish miracles.”  ~ William Hazlitt

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Give it a try. Smile on purpose. Say a kind word. Open a door. Do random acts of kindness. Especially if you wake for the day in a disgruntled mood…actively do these things and see how your mood and your day changes. Most important of all…start by doing these things…to and for yourself! Smile at yourself in the mirror. You deserve a good-natured wink and a kind word. Who better to give it, than you!

Thoughts For The Day

Thoughts Water

“Adaptability: A wise man adapts himself to circumstances as water shapes itself to the vessel that contains it.”  ~ W. R. Inge

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Everyday we are faced with Life Circumstances. Some are positive. Some are negative. Some we can change. Some we cannot. But the key to managing any and all circumstances…is Acceptance of them…and Adapting to their affect. To either embrace a circumstance, or to change one…the first step is to Accept it as a reality. It is happening. And then Adapt to it, as the water does to the vessel…Accepting its weight, girth and presence. It is then that we can see what measures to take. We must be fluid, like the water, and allow Wisdom to flow within our vessel, our soul, to aid us on our Journey.

Thoughts Moment

“As you walk and eat and travel,be where you are. Otherwise you will miss most of your life.” ~ Buddha

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Be in the moment! Each and every moment is a gift to be treasured. If we spend too much time pining for or regretting the past, or worrying about the future, we will miss the greatness of this moment. Don’t look away…what if what you want is ready to happen now…and you are too busy looking backward or forward to see it? Don’t miss the magic of your life this moment has to give.

Thoughts Tree Limb

“Go out on a limb. That’s where the fruit is.”  ~ Jimmy Carter

MarDrags’ Thoughts:

Take a chance. Take that chance you have been mulling over. That voice you hear full of fear and keeping you from doing it…that voice is a false voice. It only tells you to fear because it is afraid you will stop listening and it will cease to exist. As the quote says…if we never go out on the limb, take a chance, we will never know what fruit our actions would bear. Never knowing is far worse than trying and failing. Remember, the mighty and magical Oak begins as a tiny seed too.

The Art of Attitude

“The greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances.”  ~ Martha Washington

“We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses.”  ~ Abraham Lincoln

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference.”  ~ Winston Churchill

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.”  ~ Marcus Aurelius

“Look on every exit as being an entrance somewhere else.”  ~ Tom Stoppard

“We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our Attitudes.”  ~ Charles R. Swindoll

Attitude 1

from the Desk of MarDrag:

Attitude…it is that thing we have to face when we wake and look in the mirror to begin every day. It is also the one thing we can struggle with so much. Having been an English/Literature major, and being a writer, and a wordsmith…I often enjoy taking to my trusty, dusty, yet revered Oxford American Dictionary…yes in hard cover…that still occupies an exalted place on my desk, to look up the definition of a word I want to write about. Let us see what it has to say about Attitude:

Definition of Attitude:

  1. A settled way of thinking or feeling, typically reflected in a person’s behavior.
  2. A state of mind or a feeling; disposition
  3. A position of the body or manner of carrying oneself
  4. Phonetic pronunciation: [at-i-tood, -tyood]

I find this to be a rather anemic definition of a word that renders such Power…in its carrier, and its receiver. I guess I had the “Attitude” that there would be much more profound words to describe it. The thing I loved the most was the phonetic pronunciation. It made me giggle…and I will likely refer to my Attitude going forward as my “Ati-tood”! THAT should help to lighten a tough one, won’t it?

Attitude 2

But, in all seriousness, there are so many variables that influence what our Attitude will be. Or so we think! In truth though, the last quote above really says it all…we can not count on being able to change people, places, things, words, attitudes…and all that goes on around us…we can only change or adjust or consider HOW we will react to it. IF it is in our Power to change something, and it is right to do so, then we should strive to take action. But…if we are faced with circumstances that we cannot change…we are still not without Power…because we can still have command over our actions, thoughts and reactions to those circumstances…and THAT makes all the difference to our quality of life.

Attitude 4

I will share a secret with you now! Way back…all those years ago before I started my spiritual journey to my true self…I was a very angry person. I had endured a lot in my life for a young person. And I, admittedly, had a bad Attitude. My life was hard and I resented it. I sought therapy, but was told in order to find happiness I would have to change from within, and then things around me would change. I said Pffft…it was everything around me that needed to change…and then I would be happy. It took awhile…but I did learn I had it backward. And that, in fact, I had no real right to ask everything else around me to change…because it was what it was for a reason…and it had its own “life”.

I learned my “Real Power” was in changing how I dealt with all those things. And that I could take my Power back from them to feel better. In being angry all the time, or fighting/hating circumstances…I gave up my Power to them and they gained control over me. And my Attitude swelled into anger over that. But what I discovered when I started to take command of myself and chose NOT to be bothered by circumstances and let go of negative self-talk…was the thrill of experiencing a profoundly Empowered Self. How badass is it to stare into the face of a rotten circumstance and say…”I will not let you affect my great and happy Attitude”? THAT is pure and lovely Power!

Attitude 6

To Bless and Love the toughest circumstances and know they are there for the benefit of our growth and learning…is the greatest Power of all. (Tongue firmly in cheek)…So, when I (for the umpteenth time) have to call the cable company I dropped a year ago, in favor of a better one, who just today sent me yet another copy of a bill I already paid demanding payment…I will tell them, with all the Love in my heart, what a shoddy account department they have and would they kindly take this out of their system and never contact me again. I will likely get a nice helpful response, which I would not get if I yelled at them about how inept they are. See…it’s all in the Attitude!
