from the Desk of Mardrag:
I spent the day Saturday with my Darling Daughter (adult) going to lunch at a new restaurant and indulging in a bit of retail therapy. We have a close relationship, after years of cultivating it, and we have a great time together. We are both grateful for that, and grateful for the good things in our lives and we recognize that we are in relatively good places. Having said that, there are also some things in both our lives that need to change or that we are not happy with or that cause us stress and worry. Just like everyone.
But one thing we realized yesterday was that….we can always laugh together. When we made the date to go out, there were things we could have talked about, analyzed and dissected. BUT, we made a pact that anything stress related was off limits….just for this time we elected to spend together. We made an agreement not to talk about anything that did not bring us joy and laughter. And, we had an amazing afternoon!
We drove, ate, shopped, as if we had not a care in the world, and for those few hours, we didn’t have a care. We were silly, self-deprecating, and teasing….and it relieved so much pent up energy for both of us….we were quite changed by it and felt it was the best medicine for the afternoon. Even when I said something teasing to her and she told me, “Ma, that’s it, you are walking the rest of the way home”….*we were in my driveway*! Wink!
So today, put aside any worries, stress or pain….and make a pact with a loved one (or with yourself) to only have laughter and joy in your day. The rest will still be there tomorrow to deal with, but the laughter you feed your soul with today will make tomorrow so much easier to face. If laughter is wine for the soul, then drink deeply of it and nourish yourself, get drunk on it, it is the only hangover that doesn’t come with a headache…..in fact, it is the medicine that relieves the pain.
Have an hysterical Sunday!
